CHAPTER ONE
HEDDA
She had been lying for months. Everyone had been asking her if she was okay and she would either ignore them or tell them she was fine.
But she was anything but fine.
Hedda thought that staying in Springfield, Missouri with Monroe would help, but it hadn’t. She still woke up from nightmares. She didn’t want to eat or leave the house.
She was the shell of a person she used to be.
Part of her knew no one was after her, that she could go outside and live her life but it was a fear. Her brother would keep her safe but he wasn’t with her right now. He was back in New York, so far away.
It had taken a lot of convincing to allow her to come here, but he had finally said okay only if she took a guard with her. He wasn’t in the house, but he would patrol around the area in case of something happening.
Nothing was going to happen. That was what her brothertold her before she left. Nothing was going to happen to her and none of Richard’s friends or employees were going to come after her.
But Hedda wasn’t so sure about that. Why would he have a guard on her if he didn’t think that was going to happen? Well, she actually knew the reason why. Her brother was the Don of the Ricci Crime Family which meant there was always a target on her back just for being his sister.
Every time Hedda woke up from her nightmare, she would sit in the corner, her eyes on the door waiting for something to happen.
Monroe and Michael had come in several times to her screaming and would wake her up. She knew it was taxing on them, since she had nightmares every night. She had told them several times that she wasn’t going to talk about it and that they didn’t have to check in on her. They didn’t like it, but after she cursed at them to leave, they haven't come back.
They didn’t sign up for this and Hedda was starting to feel guilty about it. Rogan didn’t know that she was having nightmares about her shooting Richard and she wanted to keep it that way. He didn’t need to worry about her when he was worrying about Ethan Montgomery and what his guys were up to.
There was so much going on and at the same time there wasn’t. It was all in Hedda’s head and she couldn’t get away from it.
The guilt of killing Richard was weighing down on her. Michael had told her she should talk about it, but she didn’t want to. She couldn’t.
Hedda just needed to pretend that nothing was wrong and push it all deep down. No one here needed to know that she had killed a man.
Murdered him to save Storm.
Everyone would look at her differently and she didn’t want that.
“Hedda?” Monroe asked as she opened her door.
“Yes?” Hedda asked. It wasn’t uncommon for Monroe to come into her room, asking her questions or if she wanted to do something.
“Michael and I are going to BTS. Do you want to come?” Monroe asked.
Hedda wanted to go so badly. Maybe a night out in Middle space would help her, but the thought of leaving the house wasn’t appealing. What if some men got into the club and took her away? What if they killed her?
“Are the twins going to be there?” Hedda asked.
She knew it was risky coming to Missouri where the two Daddies she was talking to were living. But she didn't have anywhere else to go. Not where her brother would allow her to go. She didn't know anyone else that was outside of New York, and she needed to get away from where everything happened.
She needed to or her mental health was going to take a turn.
"I think they are," Monroe said. "But I'm not sure. I can ask Michael if they are going to be there. Do you want to see them?"
Hedda shook her head. "I'll stay here."
She didn't want to see them because she had been ignoring them since the shooting. Part of her knew it was bad because they were so good for her or that's what Monroe and Miles said when she was first talking to them, but the other part didn't care. She didn't deserve them. She didn't deserve anyone in her life.
She had murdered someone.
There is so much for Hedda to work through, and she wasn't ready to see the twins yet. That didn't stop them from texting her every day, multiple times a day. She read all the messages, but she never responded to them. She couldn't get involved with them right now or ever. Hedda needed to put as much distance between them as possible so that eventually they forgot about her.
