Page 71 of Mad Love

It’s Easter weekend and we’re driving into Landmark Mountain. Felicity has been to see us a few times, but this will be the first time I’ve gone to see her. I’m excited to meet everyone.

It’s been a little tense for the past few weeks, while Weston and I navigate living in the same house, but we’ve both worked hard to get to a comfortable place with each other. After our kiss—I don’t even know what to call what happened because he’s right, it was so much more than that to me too—and the conversation the next day, I haven’t brought up leaving again. Nothing was officially said, but after he looked so panicked when I suggested leaving, I decided then and there that I would stay, even if it was hard on me.

It’s definitely been hard.

But I just want to do what’s right for Caleb.

I think Weston was hurt, thinking we weren’t on the same page, but the truth is, that kiss meanttoomuch, and if anything, my feelings for him are growing stronger by the day.

I wonder, several times a day, if he’s changed his mind about me. If he feels the same or if he’s written it off to a weak moment. I don’t think I’ll ever know because we’re both doing such a good job ofnot going there.

“Oh my goodness, this town is so cute,” I say. “It’s so festive. Look at the bunnies! Oh my God, Caleb is going to love the bunnies.”

Weston looks over at me and grins. “They go all out for every holiday, even more than Silver Hills. You should see it around here at Christmastime.”

We pull into the Landmark Mountain Lodge & Ski Resort parking lot and Weston gets Caleb out of his seat while I make sure everything is in the backpack.

“Should we change him before we meet everyone?” I ask.

“Yeah, probably.”

“Just lay him on the seat, I can do it quick and no one will even see what we’re doing.”

“So bossy,” he teases. “I’ll change him, thank you very much.”

I give him a pointed look. “Did you pack the tinkle tent?”

He makes a face. “Dammit. No, I didn’t. Why doesn’t he evertinkleon you?”

“Because you’re too fun to surprise.”

He laughs and my stomach flutters. Yeah, I’m obviously an amazing actress because I don’t think Weston has a clue how bad I’ve got it for him.

His phone starts going off like crazy and my eyebrows lift.

“Someone is desperate for you.”

“At least someone is,” he quips.

My cheeks heat and I motion for him to let me change Caleb. He checks his phone while I get to work. I hear him chuckling and I’m dying of curiosity. I guess he could be chatting with other women, but he’s definitely not had time to go be with any. He’s still with me and Caleb all the time.

I think that will all change when he’s playing again.

I get Caleb snapped back up and lift him, smiling at my sweet boy. He’s getting so big.

“Hey, listen to this,” Weston says. “Penn volunteered to be a tutor for that mentorship program my mom told us about. And he has met his match with the kid.” He laughs and shows me the text.

Penn

Okay. What the fuck do The Single Dad Players have to say about this? I showed up to tutor my dude Sam, and the first thing he asks is when should he expect to get armpit hair. The hell kind of question is that?

Rhodes

Did you tell him you were fifteen before you got yours?

Penn

Very funny. He’s freaking nine. Why does he want to know that? I tried to get him back on track with the math problems, but then he asked how old I was when I first kissed with tongue. I said, Crap, Sam, you’re giving me all the heavy hitters right off the bat. And he said he had a lot more questions!
