I just screwed everything up once again.

“I’m sure that you are probably overreacting.” He assured me, but I knew better.

“He lost his faith in me three years ago when I lost my mind and things have been touch and go between us.” I wasn’t someone to be proud of.

We finished up our hot drinks before he took me home as promised. “I thought you might want this.” He said, handing me a shirt when we started to head out.

“Thanks, but I am keeping this one,” I said, gesturing towards the shirt I was wearing.

He chuckled and just let me be.

“Should I wait outside for you just in case?” He asked when we showed up at my dad’s house.

I stared at the house and even though it sounded like a great idea, I had to face my father and take whatever lecture he has ready for me, but I am drawing the line when he even mentions taking hockey away from me.

He wasn’t home when we pulled up and I was a bit grateful. “Thanks for everything last night and my shirt.”

I was glad I attended the party even though there was a bit of a quarrel. “Will remember to invite you to the next one.”

I stepped out of his car, gave him a small wave—shut the door, and headed inside the house using my keys.

There was no sign of my dad, Meredith or Jonah when I entered. I kicked off my shoes and decided to head upstairs to take a shower and maybe get in a few extra hours of sleep.

My eyes fluttered open when I felt a hand brushing over the side of my face.

“Hey,” My father greeted me with a smile.

I quirked an eyebrow and raised my head.

“Hey,”

I was confused. I expected him to go all raging dragon on me, shoot fire and threaten to whip my ass.

“Sorry, I didn’t let you know that I was going over to a party or sleeping over,” I said, sitting upright.

He shook his head.

“It’s me who has to apologize.” He said, handing me an envelope.

“Your coach, Isabelle was here this morning to give you this.” He explained.

“Apparently, your team is attending the National Indoor champion try-outs.”

I nodded. “Yeah, we weren’t aware that she registered our team and that we made it.” I tore the envelope open and read through the letter. It was only confirmation that we made it, our schedule, and what time we had to be there.

“I was a fool for doubting you.” He noted.

“You had your reasons. I wasn’t the most fun person to be around.” I felt freaked out that things were so calm between us.

“Why didn’t you tell me that Isabelle Sanders is your assisting couch?” He asked.

“Admit it, dad. You wouldn’t have listened or believed me.” I answered.

He seemed truly dissatisfied with himself as he shook his head in despair.

“I’m ungrounding you and taking away your extra chores. You finally showed me that you found your passion again and you are truly meant to follow this path.”

“All chores? Including dropping Jonah off at school and picking him up?”
