“We can clear this landing zone and secure the suite at the Lucky Star hotel in the VIP district.”

“Well, that’s more like it.”

“Follow me, if you please.”

“Swarti, assign a soldier to look after my prize.”

“Yes, sir.”

We followed her through the landing port to the industrialized center, which was a small shopping hub. Different aliens from almost every planet lined the shops and food carts. She took me inside, and the music's bass blasted through the walls with a deep beat. I didn’t remember this station having a club in this spot.

She used a key card to access an empty comms room.

“We can call him here without interference.”

“You mean without being spied upon.” I corrected her before walking over to the massive holo communicator, allowing her to go to work to get her boss on the line.

“Why are you, a Valisian, taking orders from what I presume is not another Valisian?” I had to ask. It wasn’t every day our kind took orders from anything other than our own.

“Not many Valisian here and I love it here, I couldn’t take over even if I wanted to, and there is no better leader than Feion. He also saved my life, so that helps.”

“And you’re not assigned to a ship or…?”

“Or? What? A Harem?”

“Are you barren?”

“A brazen and rude question. If I said I wasn’t, what would you do? Knock me upside my head and drag me away?”

“No, holding a Valisian against their will isn’t something that sits well with me, no matter if they could give birth or not.”

“Well, aren’t you a strange prince?”

“Where is Feion?”

She hit the button to turn on the switch bringing up a shadow image, someone wanted to keep themselves hidden.

“Sir, he’s here.” She said, stepping away and allowing me to come into view, projecting my holographic image to the being who could be a light year away for all I knew.

“I apologize for the actions of my subordinates; I will punish them for the rude manner in which they greeted you.”

“Just get on with it. What do you want?”

“You know, young prince. The times are changing more than you realize. Those who do not adapt are doomed to die out.”

“If that’s some sort of threat, then try harder.”

“Quite the contrary, it’s a friendly warning. I’m sure that is what your father wants you to learn. You’re also not the only contender to the crown; you have four others ahead of you, and it wouldn’t be difficult to convince them to latch onto an advantage when they see one, half-bastard son of a King.”

I wanted to gut him open and tear his entrails from his belly. The brazen balls this bastard had to say such a thing to me. He revealed a private comms conversation with my father long before I reached this port!

“I’ll meet with you.” I sneered, keeping my rage in check.

“Excellent, and bring your …humanwith you. There are others of his kind here under my care. It may make him feel more comfortable.”

He cut the call off, showing he was in charge; he wouldn’t be the first who thought they were. I pulled my short blade from my gauntlet and pressed the tip against this Valisian bitch’s throat.

Swarti lunged toward me but stopped once he saw my murderous gaze. “Sir?!”
