“I appreciate that, Caroline. Thank you.”
“You have to understand how taken aback I was,” Cal says. “I never would’ve guessed, and yes, it’s probably more so because you were my friend and less about age. The boss and employee dynamic bothered me because I know how it can be for young employees to feel like they have to do certain things if the boss that they’re sleeping with says so. The power imbalance is why those types of relationships aren’t allowed, but I guess I should’ve known my son better.”
“I tried explaining that he wasn’t taking advantage. He attempted to do the right thing but I was the one who kept after him. Yes, he gave in, but I’m pretty charming,” Jay says with a smile.
His mom makes a face, but her lips quirk into a grin anyway.
“Well, this is your decision,” Cal says. “I hope everything works out the way you want it. You’re right, you’re both adults and I don’t have a say in your personal life, but like I said, I was just blindsided and didn’t know how to react.”
Caroline pats his knee, a small smile on her face.
“Thanks, Dad,” Jay says, standing up to give both his parents another hug.
Caroline embraces me, and Cal shakes my hand. He doesn’t look at me the same as he used to, but I supposed the knowledge of your friend fucking your kid probably changes things a bit. I can’t blame him. I still feel a slight tinge of awkwardness around them both.
After a while, Cal offers me a drink, and Caroline whips up a quick meal. Jayden’s sister comes home shortly after and gets caught up to speed fairly quickly, and is the only one who’s the least bit concerned.
A couple hours later, we leave their house feeling a lot lighter, and make our way back to my home with smiles on our faces and lots to look forward to.

Jay:I miss you. When are you moving again? Tomorrow?
Me:I wish. I’ll be there soon, baby.
It’s beenthree weeks since Jay was here in Chicago. There’s been a lot of FaceTime calls and countless texts. I’ve been using this time to finish all business related work I need to, find a place to live in Michigan, and hire a company to pack and ship all of my belongings.
We decided we wouldn’t attempt to live together right away. We want to give this the time and space a normal relationship would have. It’s not like we’ve been together a long time, but I have a feeling living with Jay would be easy.
Jay:Question. Do you want to FaceTime tonight?
Alek:Why would that ever be a question?
Jay:Okay. Another question. Do you want to give me a strip tease while we’re on FaceTime? I miss a certain part of you.
Me:We just had video phone sex two days ago.
Jay:I’m a fiend.
Me:Call me, but you better already be naked.
Jay:Yessir!
Five weekssince I’ve seen Jay and I’m starting to go crazy. I’ve finally secured a place to live, thanks to a lot of phone calls and video chats with a realtor and the help of Jay. He’s been my proxy, checking out the apartments in my stead. My furniture is set to ship out in a few days. We’re getting closer.
While it’s been hard to be away from him for such a long time, we’ve definitely learned a lot more about each other through all the late night phone calls.
Jay:My friends want to meet you. Are you ready for that?
Me:You make it sound like I should be afraid.
Jay:You never know.
Me:Of course I want to meet them. They’re important to you.
Jay:So are you.
I driveinto Michigan on an early Friday afternoon and get the keys to my apartment. My furniture is already in storage here, so I call the moving company I’ve previously been in contact with and meet them at the facility. A few hours later, everything that’ll fit in this condo is unloaded and placed in my new home. There’s still quite a bit that’ll sit in storage until I move into a larger place, but a two bedroom condo is all I need. While that’s what I had in Chicago, this one is a little smaller.
