“You probably shouldn’t tell her,” Jake says.

“Better to know now than get blindsided,” Todd says.

“Someone wanna tell me?” I ask.

“Angela is here,” Todd says, nodding his head toward the bitch herself standing off on the sideline. “I don’t think Lance has noticed.”

“I’m about to be so petty,” I say, staring at her.

“You’re going to let him tackle you, aren’t you?” Jake asks with a grin.

“Damn straight. I know Lance. I just called myself fat. He’s going to pin me and tickle me, just as he’s done since we were kids.”

“I’ll run you. Just let him be faster,” Todd laughs. We go back and set up to start.

“Ready to run, Little Demon?” Lance asks, taunting me.

“Are you?” I ask.

Todd almost immediately hands the ball off to me and I take off. I get across the field before Lance wraps his arms around my waist and brings himself down. He brings me down with him and I scream at how fast he does it. How he has us fall, he hits the ground first and pulls me down on top of him before rolling us. He is straddling my body and has my arms pinned with one hand and tickling my side.

“Stop,” I squeal.

“What did I say about saying that bullshit, Sadie?” he asks, scolding me.

“Stop, stop, stop,” I laugh. And try to wiggle out of his hold on me. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I won’t say it again.”

“Say it,” he demands. He has his hand on my side, ready to tickle me again at any moment.

“Lance,” I giggle. “Let me go.”

“Say it and I will,” he says. I can hear the others chuckling. They have always found it amusing when I piss the guys off.

“Fine,” I laugh. “I’m beautiful and perfect the way I am.”

“Thank you,” he says and gets off me. He takes my hand and helps me up. I grin and Lance glares at me, knowing I’m about to say something bad about myself but to get a rise out of him.

“Perfectly round,” I say as I step past him. He turns and smacks my ass, making everyone cackle.

“Ow, you asshole,” I laugh and slap his arm. Lance grins at me but his face drops when he looks past me to where I know Angela is.

“I swear to God, Sadie, I did not invite her,” he says with concern in his tone.

I turn around and Angela immediately rears back and slaps me across the face. In books people describe anger as the “seeing red” and none of that made sense until this very moment when unbridled rage floods out of me.

“You stupid bitch!” I scream at her.

“Sadie. Don’t!” Mason shouts at me moments before my fist connects with the side of her face. Her head snaps back and she lets out a pained grunt when I grab a fist full of her box-dye blonde hair and sling her to the ground. Dean loops his arms around me, pinning my arms to my chest before I get a chance to hit her again. He pulls me back to keep me from kicking her as she goes to get off the ground.

“Let go of me,” I scream at Dean as I try to get away from him so I can beat the life out of this bimbo bitch for putting her hands on me.

Angela goes to step toward me again and Lance steps in front of her. “Go,” he growls.

“Lance, you’re not seriously…” she goes to say.

“What the fuck did I just say, Angela? Go. You were never more than a fuck when I was bored. Stop trying to replace someone you’ll never measure up to,” he says with anger in his voice. I am stunned at the anger I’m seeing from him. He never projects his anger on others.

“Enjoy being in the friend zone with a fat bitch who’ll never put out,” she says, matching his anger. I open my mouth to yell at her but Dean covers my mouth, knowing I’m about to add fuel to the fire. I bite his hand and he pops me on the forehead before covering my mouth again.
