“Why don’t you try?” she breathes.
“Maybe next year. I have something else I need to do first.”
I turn us around so her back is against the wall, my body hiding hers as I slide my hand up to her throat, resting it there, using my thumb to angle her chin up. It’s so dark, but I can still see her face. So fucking beautiful, her green eyes shining with something as they look up at me and the desperation to tell her my feelings is overwhelming, but instead I hear the countdown hit zero and crash my mouth onto her, showing her everything I’m feeling with my lips on hers.
She gives it back just as she always does, opening her mouth for my tongue to dip in and explore. This kiss is slow, deep and meaningful. Her fists grip my shirt, pulling me to press against her completely. There’s no space between us and I want more like I always do with her. I want to take her into one of these rooms and fuck her, not caring who’s here, who could catch us. I just want her.
I want her today, tomorrow, the next day, next year. I fucking want her. And I kiss her like I’m telling her that.
“Oh shit, I’m sorry,” a voice sounds from the opening of the hallway.
We break apart quickly, Brynn buries her face in my chest with a gasp, trying to hide.
“Wheeler, what are you–” Dumont starts, and I just look at him, waiting for him to make a scene about who I’m with.
“You going to run and tell?” I snap while Brynn tenses against me.
Dumont shakes his head, looking behind him, probably to see if anyone else is nearby. “No, I saw this coming, and if you’re okay with Collee killing you if he finds out that’s on you.”
“He shouldn’t want to kill me if being together is something we both want,” I argue.
Brynn tenses even more against me. I may be speaking for her, and she doesn’t deny it, because I know deep down she does want me. We may have been playing games around it for a while, but we’re past that now. So beyond past that.
Dumont raises his hands up. “You don’t have to convince me.”
For a brief moment I wonder if he would be helpful whenever we do have to tell Captain Collee, but I know that won’t be tonight and I can already feel Brynn freaking out just like I knew she would.
Dumont walks away and I look down at her once again. “Please don’t run, Baby Collee.”
She shakes her head. “I’m not running.”
We manageto both leave the party separately and without anyone noticing, I left first so she could say goodbye to everyone.I know she won’t be far behind me, so when I get home, I change into some black sweatpants and leave my shirt off. When I’m in my closet I come up with a little plan to have some extra fun with her.
She said she wouldn’t run, but I want to make extra sure she won’t.
She knocks on the front door a half an hour later and that’s another thing I plan to change. So, when I open it, I immediately hold my hand out, “Give me your keys.”
“Why?”
I raise an eyebrow just waiting for her.
“I told you I’m not running.”
I just gesture with my hand for the keys. With an eye roll she slaps her keys into my palm and walks past me. I shut the door behind her, then slide a key to my house onto her keychain before bringing it back to her.
“I believe you.” I hand her keys back to a very confused Brynn.
“What did you do?” she asks, looking at them.
“I added something.”
“That reminds me,” she digs in her jacket pocket, producing a small gift box, handing it to me. I furrow my brows at it.
“What’s that?”
“Your Christmas present. Just open it.”
When I do I see the pink crown keychain inside and the side of my mouth pulls up in a smile at the item, but don’t say anything, I just look up at her where she’s shifting on her feet.
