Brielle ignored them as she continued to butcher her steak in irritation, to which Killian slowly retrieved the knife before placing a small kiss on her head.

“We’re still on edge, if you will,” Eugene muttered.

Brielle’s head shot up. “Because you didn’t apologize to me. That’s why.”

Killian rubbed the palm of her hand, and Brielle continued, “You’re always holding secrets, and you never tell me anything. Ever. You push me away constantly. Why?”

I noticed my father and Eugene locking eyes for just a split second.

“Brielle... I… I’m sorry. It’s just that—” Eugene began, his hands trembling slightly as his gaze shifted to my father for a split second.

Blaine’s eyes widened as we waited for the words to come out of him.

Was he really going to confess? Would this finally clear the air?

I gazed at my father, who looked emotionless. He sensed the incoming confession as well. I glanced at Delilah and Kimiko, who seemed slightly paranoid. Why, he couldn’t be confessing now… That would make things far too easy.

“Eugene, please,” Brielle whispered, and he sighed again.

However, my attention was directed to Pierce, who was making a swift walk to the front door and looked panicked as he answered a phone call. In the distance, I also saw the red and blue flashes of police cars, but no sirens.What the hell was going on?

All of a sudden, there was a knock at the door, and the entire table turned to look.

Pierce opened the door hesitantly. “Good evening... Can I help you, gentlemen?” he asked worriedly.

We heard the voice of the police officer.“We got a tip that two suspects in our recent case are here. We have a warrant to search the residence. Is the homeowner present at this time?”

My eyes darted to my father.

“Calvin, what the hell is going on?” Killian asked.

My father, for the first time in my life... looked completely and utterly shocked.

Multiple officers made their way into the dining room. Two officers grabbed my father while the other two grabbed Eugene.

“Eugene...” Brielle whispered as tears came to her eyes, and I also felt in shock.

As they were being placed in handcuffs, I went to speak in order to get clarification as to what was going on when I noticed Luca... casually eating as if nothing was happening.

As if he could feel my eyes on him, he looked up at me for a moment and raised his finger to his lips as if to silence me as he slowly broke and let out a sinister grin.

“Unhand me! I’ve done nothing wrong!” my father exclaimed as his hands were placed in handcuffs behind him. Eugene’s head hung low as the other officers did the same to him. The entire table was left in utter disbelief as we watched.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Killian screamed.

Eugene sighed, deciding to finally speak up.

“I’ve been working with Calvin again,” he admitted, and Blaine threw his hands into the air, smiling widely. Shin covered his head with his hands as if he, too, couldn’t believe it.

“FUCK YEAH! I TOLD YOU SO—oh shit… probably not the best moment to celebrate,” Blaine said, wincing as Killian sent him a death glare that had him slightly recoiling.

“Eugene Newman, you are under arrest for the attempted murder ofMarissa Newman, Gregory Newman, and Cheryl Newmanin the first degree fifteen years ago. Additionally, you are charged with the first-degree murders of these three individuals, as well as the recent murder ofMichael Donovan. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can andwill be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to represent you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you?”

Eugene nodded, and the chief officer spoke to my father next.
