“Can you get out of your driveway?”

“Probably. Why?”

“I plowed the road in front of Dad last night all the way to town. But on the way home, we ended up in the ditch.”

“What the hell?”

“It totally wasn’t my fault. I’ll tell you about while you help me tow it out of there. I’ll tell Dad about it, of course. But I’d just as soon he didn’t drive past it on his way home.”

J.T. laughed. “When do you need me?”

“In an hour. I need to eat. The truck is about three miles east of the house. You can’t miss it. But you’ll need to come pick me up.”

“I’ll see you in an hour.”

Sawyer set his phone aside and looked at Jade. “I suppose you want to come.”

She shook her head. “No. I’m finally warm. I’m staying right here.”

Sage came down the stairs. “Any news?”

“Yes. It’s a girl.”

“And you’re just now telling me?”

“I just talked to Dad. Jeez.”

“A little girl? What did they name her?”

“Esty.”

She dropped into the chair. “Perfect.”

“I don’t suppose you’d like to make some breakfast. I need to shower, then meet J.T. at the truck. I think we can pull it out with his winch.”

“Sure. But only because you had such a terrible night.”

Jade got to her feet. “I’ll help.”

She and Sage went to the kitchen and took what they needed from the refrigerator to make eggs and sausages.

Sage looked at Jade. “You still look exhausted.”

“I am. Last night was really hard.”

“Sit down. I’ve got this.”

Jade nodded and went to the table.

Sage broke eight eggs into a pan and scrambled them. “How’s it going with you and Sawyer?”

“What do you mean?”

“The other day we were talking about the fact there may be some feelings going on.”

Jade shrugged. “I don’t know. I think I’ll always just be Skittles to him.”

“Hmm. Maybe. But you might be surprised how he’d react if you maybe made the first move.” She put the package of sausages into another pan.
