Knock. Knock.
“I heard there were some hungry mates in here.” Zander walked into the conference room carrying two large pizzas. Ollie followed with two bottles of soda and a brown paper bag that better have been brownies.
“Finally.” Rayne jumped up and rushed to grab the food from his mate. “I am famished. Ollie, aren’t the babies demanding you eat? I couldn’t get enough with the twins.”
“Honestly, no.” Ollie took a seat next to me. I reached over and kissed him sweetly. I missed him.
“You okay?” Rayne’s brows pulled tight.
“Oh, I’m just more tired than usual. And not very hungry.” Ollie stole my napkin and stuffed it in his pocket. Luckily it wasn’t used.
“Is he doing that a lot?” Rayne, pointing to Ollie, who was now wrapping my sweater around himself.
“Doing what?” I asked.
“Taking soft things.” Zander came up behind Rayne and hugged him. They gave us knowing looks. I still had no clue what they were suggesting.
“I guess. He did take some of our extra blankets from the closet and put them by the window seat. I figured he was thinking of relaxing there after work. Read a book or something.”
“Or something,” Zander muttered.
Rayne just smirked at me. “Be ready, bro. It looks like nesting has begun.”
I shook my head. “Wait. Really? You think?”
“They are just messing with you, babe,” Ollie said, admiring the soft hoodie Zander had laid in the chair beside him. “We still have plenty of time.”
“Sure you do, Ollie,” Rayne said, shaking his head.
Zander wordlessly mouthed the words,No, you don’t, from behind him.
A new wave of frustration and protection swam over me. I had to find out who was behind all these issues we had. No one was going to endanger my family. And if what Zander and Rayne were saying was right—
Well, fuck. It looks like I was going to meet my eggs soon.
Chapter Fourteen
Ollie
Extreme pressure in my lower belly had me sitting straight up in bed and hitting Wolf to wake him.
“I don’t know what it is, but I didn’t do it.” Wolf moved away from my pounding hand and switched on the bedside lamp. “Damn, babe, that hurt.”
Panting and a death glare were my only response.
“Fuck. Is everything okay? Do you need a doctor?” Wolf jumped into action now that he was awake. I couldn’t answer him, so he dialed the doctor.
My world became cloudy as I doubled over in pain. Everything outside my personal space was too far to hear, see, smell, or even acknowledge. The doctor showed up and spoke a small incantation so the contractions faded.
“Ollie, I need you to focus on me.” The doctor touched my hand, grounding me enough to hear him.
“It hurts.” The contractions continued to strengthen. All other words failed me.
“I know,” Doctor Malcolm said. “I need to examine you and determine how far along the omega line has opened and if you will need assistance delivering the eggs.”
“Do it.” I closed my eyes as another contraction rolled through my body. A ripping sensation accompanied it.
“Okay, there’s a tear. The first egg is starting to come with no sign of distress. It looks minor enough that a few stitches will fix it up. I’m going to help the egg out, okay?”
