Page 26 of Don't Howl At Me

I nodded, reaching out to Wolf who appeared mesmerized by what the doctor was doing.

“Wolf, I think Ollie needs his mate.” The doctor motioned toward me. “Go hold your omega. Soon, you’ll have two eggs to hold.”

The rest of the labor flowed smoother, Doctor Malcolm whispering spells to ease the process. At a regular appointment, he’d asked consent to use magic during the delivery. I didn’t care as long as he got these eggs out safely.

I growled at my mate. “You will never touch me again.”

Doctor Malcolm chuckled, earning a glare from me. “Every omega says that during labor. They’re back here in another year or so.”

“I don’t care what any other omegas do. I will not be pregnant ever again.” I was starting to dislike Dr. Alpha-hole.

“Okay. We’ll see how that goes.” Doctor Malcolm dared to wink at Wolf.

I looked Wolf in the eyes. “Remind me later to find another doctor. One that believes omegas.” If I weren’t already birthing these eggs and needed the magic assistance, I would have made him leave—stupid alphas.

“I promise.” Wolf kissed my head. He still was never getting sex again.

“Okay, Ollie, one more to go.” Doctor Malcolm placed the brilliant teal egg on my chest. The immense love for my child overwhelmed me.

“Beautiful.” Wolf ran a finger down the side of our egg. His eyes watered and his mouth lifted in joy.

“The other one is ready to come out. Just one more good push,” Doctor Malcolm said.

I took a deep breath and channeled all the energy I could. Strength gathered in my core, and I pushed. Tremendous pressure rippled through me but relief came when the doctor held a raspberry-colored egg.

The doctor’s hands examined my belly to ensure my omega line would heal properly. But my attention was on the two glorious eggs on my chest and the adoration on my mate’s face.

“I love you.” I reached up and touched Wolf’s cheek.

“I love you, too.” Wolf bowed down and kissed me sweetly. “The three of you are my world.”

Tears gathered in my eyes as emotions took over me. Sobs. Wolf frowned. “Honey, are you okay?”

“I miss them.” I couldn’t explain it. One minute, I wanted them out of my body and, the next, I wanted them back in.

The doctor’s lips tilted up. “And that was why I said all omegas say never again. Until after the agony of the delivery subsides.”

At that moment, I could understand wanting another child in a year or two. But, first, I had some eggs to love.

“I’m going to go now.” Doctor Malcolm finished packing up his supplies. “Your omega line is already healing. I added magic to the torn spot, but it is stitched back together. If you can allow someone you trust to watch the eggs, I suggest you shift tonight.”

“Will that help with the healing?”

“Give yourself a couple of hours to allow your body to rest, let your beast free. The process will heal you the rest of the way. Your dragon will know what to do.”

“Thank you, Doctor,” I said.

As the doctor left the room, my eyes were on the eggs. Wolf must have sensed my thoughts because soon we were in our nest, both of our eggs in my arms. With the doctor gone, it was just us—our family.

My dragon needed to come out. Magenta scales replaced my skin, and the shift began. Sparkling beams of light and a shimmering haze filled the area around my body. My magic and dragon were so interwoven, my shift looked slightly different than most other shifters. My body elongated, and the euphoric pleasure of my change filled my senses.

“Every time you shift, it’s more incredible to witness.” Wolf stared at me for a few more seconds before shifting into his wolf. His brilliant teal eyes, surrounded by the pure white fur of his wolf form, spoke of his magic.

“Let’s go,” I said over our mating link. I loved that we could still communicate while shifted. Not all mates shared that ability.

I flew above the tree line as he ran on the ground, following my path. The green trees of the forest were one of my favorite sights. The breeze on my face and the freedom of flight restored my energy. The doctor was right; I’d needed to let my dragon out to heal fully.
