“Lilith, the actual first woman, this is Carson, my best friend. You guys should know each other.”
They shook hands. I could see the amusement on Lilith’s face. After all the niceties were shares, I told Lilith why I was here.
“Your fiancé is looking for something. A strong magic item entered this realm a few days before she did. I can feel it. It brought unbalance, and it’s here. It has Silver written all over it.”
“Do you know her?”
“Baby, everyone knows Silver, or better, of Silver. She’s Lucifer’s only daughter, the future Mistress of Hell.”
“Who’s her mother?” I asked, but no one had an answer. It’s as if Lucifer made her out of thin air.
“See, now you’re asking the right questions. I’m proud of you.”
“Do you know who she was?”
“Is,” Lilith said. “Caspian, imagine trying to leave Lucifer, the Ruler of the Underworld.”
I allowed her words to sink and started to understand. Yeah.
“You see, whatever happened is that Lucifer put a spell on everyone who knew of their relationship. I can’t remember much, only small bits and pieces. All I can say is that Silver’s mother is not dead, no matter what Luci says.”
I had to wash this all down with beer. “Do you think you can help me find Silver?”
“Sure, let me call one of the bartenders to replace me, and we can go make a small location spell.”
I spent the rest of the afternoon drinking beer and thinking about what Lilith had said while Carson tried, and failed, to flirt with my favorite aunt. It was almost painful to watch, but, like an accident, I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Too funny. Lilith was probably used to getting hit on. One does not become the first woman without knowing all the pick-up lines known to man.
Carson switched his attention to a chubby brunette sitting alone at the end of the bar. He went over, talked her up, and left a few minutes later with his hand slipped down the back of her jeans. At least someone would get lucky tonight.
I could feel Silver’s presence. The club was filled to the brink. People drank and danced, celebrating another wonderful day to be alive. Women and men alike followed me with their greedy looks. My body and the large number of tattoos covering it attracted attention, even in my dimension. My body art looked even more alive in this realm.
Silver was here. I could feel her energy as if tendrils of energy pulled me to her. I felt her inside me, in my blood, pulsating with each of my heartbeats.
Silver is mine.
Mine!
I was ready to carve that in blood on every creature who dared to oppose my wishes.
I caught a glimpse of her long, silver-colored hair and her high-heeled boots from the balcony. I knew it. My fated mate, my one, was here. Down there on the first floor. Her presence would burn anything and anyone who dared touch her.
I had to catch her and bring her back. The shifters she ran away with were not the proper company for the Princess of Hell.
My Queen.
My Goddess.
I didn’t care who saw me. Still, I couldn’t jump from the second floor and land on my feet in the middle of all those people. Demons are discreet. Well, mostly. Running down the stairs, I took two at once. Bodies stood between her and me.
My phone rang. It was Lilith.
“She’s here. I can feel her. She’s hunting something.”
“Yes, only what is she hunting?”
I slapped the phone shut and ran between the people, humans and Demons, shifters and vamps. They all enjoyed the party.
The noise brought me back to reality. Silver was alone in the back of the club, facing two giant monsters. The word monster was right. Each of them looked like wolf shifters on steroids.
