“Incubi don’t have natural enemies at all. That’s awkward. However, I have a lead for you.”
“Yes? What is it? Please, tell me.”
He had that look, that confident smile that touched only his eyes. “There’s a small mental hospital close by to where you are. I know there’s a Demon there who has information about the necklace. You’ll need to stop by and ask it a few questions, if possible.”
“I will. Where exactly?”
“I can feel you are close, but you’ll have to Google it and find the name. You know how this vision works, my sweet girl.”
I nodded. “I’ll look now.”
“Good. And please, be careful. I’ve been able to keep your absence hidden. You know who is busy with problems with the Nether Hell regions. There are uproars again.”
The news made me sad. I knew there were strong political reasons for getting married to Behemoth’s son, Caspian, but that still didn’t make it easy on me.
“Why is he in a nuthouse?”
Uncle Chris laughed, showing off his pearly white teeth. “Silver, love, you’re so delightfully non-PC. You should call it a mental institution. It’s what the humans call it. And don’t assume anything. The demon could be a nurse or a doctor. The lower of our kind are drawn to nut houses, as you call it.”
“They’re attracted to the fear?”
“Yes, and the fact that they can fuck with human minds and get away with it. You know, a demon must feed. Make sure you’re careful, my dear girl. Whoever has your necklace is dangerous.”
I nodded. Could I tell Uncle Chris I miss him, that everything is so fucked up here, that I want him to help me find my mother’s necklace? No. I need to get my shit together.
“Are you nervous about seeing Lilith again?”
I rolled my eyes so hard I was sure they’d stick to the back of my head. “No, I like Lilith, and I got on well with her. You know I wanted her to stay with you know who.”
Chris threw me one of his wicked smiles. “Text me, love. When you want to come back, let me know.”
“I need the necklace. I need answers. I have to know who my Mother is. I can’t come back and act as if nothing is wrong.”
Uncle Chris nodded. “I understand. You know I’m always on your side. Always.”
He touched his lips with two fingers and stretched his arms toward me. It was our way to show affection. I did the same. A warm tear formed in the corner of my eye. Fuck it if I’d let Uncle Chris see me cry.
I moved the hand on top of the bowl and ended the conversation.
Turning toward the guys, I saw River holding the lizard. He started making kissing sounds toward it. “What should I do with this guy?”
“You can free him.”
“Was that like demon Internet?” Jacks eyes didn’t meet mine. I couldn’t say I blamed him.
Drae smiled. “Jacks, how about you drive with Lizard Wolf here. I want to drive Silver’s Mercedes if she lets me. Silver, is it cool if I drive it?”
“Sure.” Drae just saved me from the drive with Jacks. “We have to stop at a mental asylum. Who can Google it?”
“Huh?” River asked.
“I just received a piece of information, and I have to check it out.”
“You know you can’t just walk into a mental clinic, right?”
“I know that. I can find a way in.”
“Okay, okay. Let me Google it.”
