“It should be close by,” I said.

The guys all had their phones out.

“Bridge Town has The Richard’s Mental Health Institute,” said Jacks. “I think that’s our spot. Do we know what we’re looking for, at least?”

I glanced over at Jacks. He leaned against the hood of the car with those narrow hips that made me dream about feeling him on top of me. Was I wrong to act the way I did? No, I wasn’t. My Father would turn him to ash if he knew anything of what happened. I had to bite my lip when I remembered his gloved hand slipping over my body and the way he made me cum on his fingers. I want it again and again.

Stop it, Silver. I slapped myself inwardly. Jacks is a good guy. I have no right to play with him. He’s the kind of guy you want to be your boyfriend and with who you are honest. I was as far away from being honest as possible.

“Let’s go.”

Drae jumped behind the wheel, and I sat on the same spot where Jacks had sat.

“We should be there in about two hours,” said Drae. “Are you hungry?”

“No. Demons don’t get hungry that way.”

“No? I had no idea. You’re the first demon I’ve ever officially met.” Drae smiled. The large wolf shifter had a softness about him.

“You probably did but had no idea they were Demons. My kind like to slip between the dimensions.”

“How about you? Are you here a lot?”

I snickered.

“Sorry. That sounded like a pick-up line.”

“Yes, it did. Are you trying to pick me up by accident?”

“I wish. I’m a realist. You’re out of my league.”

I leaned back and looked at Drae. “What do you mean? That I’m an undatable freak? Tell me, do you guys date a lot?”

Drae laughed. “You’re something else. Me and Jacks, no. We, how should I put it, we don’t date. River has a girl in each harbor.”

“That figures.”

“I’m curious. How are we going to approach the entire asylum action?”

“I don’t like to plan. I’ll figure it out when I get there.”

“Cool. How about some music?”

I hit the button on my phone and the car’s speaker filled with the sweet, smoky voice of Lana.

“I love her!” Drae sang along with the voice of Lana.

“I pictured you as more of a Metallica or AC/DC type of guy.

“Lana is classic. If you don’t like Lana, there’s something wrong with you.”

“Do guys take these types of jobs often?” I asked, changing the subject.

“Depends. Sometimes we take bodyguard jobs for humans who are being followed by something not quite human or work as bounty hunters. Depending. We never hunt or hurt innocents.”

“Who’s ever innocent?”

Drae nodded. We kept singing along with Lana. Some of the songs just touched the right spot. I felt as if someone out there understood me and my pain. The fact I felt duty toward my father and didn’t want to dishonor him. However, I need to know who my mother is. If this necklace leads me to her, I’ll use every drop of magic to find my way.
