But Scott didn’t stop me.

“I’m sorry, Scott. For being an asshole, for not telling you the truth of how I feel.”

Scott’s eyes reddened with emotion.

“I’m sorry, too.”

Then he shocked me into a stupor by dragging my face to his and kissing me.

Right here.

In the middle of a crowd.

It took a second, but I kissed him back, holding him to me and keeping it PG for everyone’s sake.

There were gasps going off around us, students realizingwhowe were andwhatwe were doing, even as I heard a cheer start not too far away from us.

Eliot.

Of course, it would be him.

Then Andy joined him.

The fight organizers were all twisted up about what to do, and Coach went to speak with them when it became clear I had no intention of getting back into the ring. Benny Denver looked almost relieved not to have to get into it again, too, but my attention quickly refocused on the guy in front of me.

Scott.

My Scott.

I took hold of his hand, gloves lost somewhere—hopefully Andy would get them for me—and guided Scott out of the crowd and into an empty hallway.

Once we were alone, I pushed him against a wall and kissed him again. All the longing, all the yearning we’d both been feeling was coming out, and we communicated it with our kiss.

When we managed to separate, we only left a few inches between us, breathing each other’s air.

“I’m sorry I broke up with you,” I said, voice rough. “I was afraid of what I was feeling, of losing you eventually, and I fucked up. I take it all back.”

Scott chuckled, the sound making my skin tingle with delight. “Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Yes, I—I wanted to find you and tell you what I felt. Because I felt insecure and afraid of the same thing, and I couldn’t tell you that—”

I put my finger on his lips. “Don’t say it. Don’t say it yet.”

Blond eyebrows drew into a frown.

“I’ll say it first—I love you, Scott Matthews. Like I’ve never loved anyone before. And I’m sorry I was an asshole, I’m sorry I was so stubborn and refused to see it. But there is no light in my world, no color without you. And if you’ll have me again…then I’ll try to make it worth it.”

Scott pushed my finger away. “You better, after stealing my line.”

My grin threatened to split my face.

“I’ll let you say it now.”

“What if I don’t want to?”

“Come on, sweetheart, I can tell you do.”
