I was teasing him and he was enjoying it. His eyes were fuckingdancing, and it took a momentous effort to not just say fuck it and kiss him senseless again.
“I love you, Travis. And you’re mine. So you better not run away from me again.”
My heart felt near bursting.
“You’ll never be leaving my bed after we’re done fucking, Scott. You’ll stay with me until I’m done cuddling you.”
Scott’s grin felt like winning the lottery.“I’ll allow it.”
Then I did kiss him again.
Because I couldn’t not.
Because loving Scott made me stronger, and it made all the shit we’d have to deal with afterward more than worth it.
As long as he was by my side, I felt strong enough to do anything.
Epilogue
Scott
Putting a stop to the whole ‘perfect Prince’ act was harder than just ‘being myself’. It meant unlearning a lot of habits that I’d adopted over the years, but instead of trying to change everything at once, I took Travis’s advice, and took it easy. It began with me claiming my boyfriend in front of everyone and it continued every day as I chose to be faithful to myself instead of trying to please everyone.
It didn’t mean that it was easy.
But it was a lot easier when I realized how much fun it was to see people’s shocked reactions.
“I need to get going, guys. Catch up later?”
“Oh, sure,” Becca, a girl from my study group, said. “Are you going to see your boyfriend?”
Was it written on my face?
She gave me a teasing look, as if she’d heard the question. “You only look this eager to leave when you’re going to see him.”
I let out a slightly embarrassed chuckle. “Yeah, I guess it makes sense.”
“Dude, I still can’t believe you’re dating him,” Richard said with a grin. “Best thing I heard all year.”
Becca and Richard had been two of the first people I’d actually told I was dating Travis. That I was in arelationshipwith him. The rumor mill had obviously gone wild when, months ago, I kissed Travis in front of everyone after he almost got arrested.
The way people talked about it, it sounded like a freaking soap opera. And I guess, in a way, it had been, but even if they knew something was going on, they hadn’t known for sure.
And when I told Becca and Richard, my study group mates had watched me, wide-eyed and open-mouthed, for what felt like ten minutes before getting their speaking abilities back.
It had been kind of a rush.
They had surprisingly taken it very well—something that couldn’t be said of Mrs. Kent, the professor that had suggested Travis was not good company to keep.
Her astonished, slightly embarrassed reaction when she saw us together one day around campus had been the best by far.
Becca rolled her eyes. “It’s beenmonthssince he told us, Rich.” To me, she said. “Go. We’ll see you around before summer break starts.”
And so with a wave, I left them and went to surprise my boyfriend.
As I opened a door and went outside, a bright May sun greeted me, scorching at this time of day, heating my skin and making it tingle along the anticipation I felt.
I was already done with my final exams, and Travis was just finishing his last one. If everything went according to plan, he and Andy would be graduating soon, something I knew Travis had been looking forward to for so long, and I wanted to be there when he came out from his last exam.
