“Time to wrap up.” She closed the book in front of her and tucked it back into its place on the shelf behind her. “Remember I’ll be gone for the rest of the week. We’ll resume our lessons on Monday.”
The witches lingered, murmuring things to each other, and she sighed as she turned back to face them and found them all gazing at the staircase.
Waiting for MacKinnon to appear.
It hadn’t taken her long to realise that some of the young witches she liked to help were crushing on her alpha wolf.
“Shoo.” She rounded the counter and waved the witches away, scowling at them as she ushered them towards the door. “He’s my wolf.”
“I heard that, lass.” Kin’s deep baritone rolled down her spine, warming her from head to toe.
Mother earth, she had missed him.
They had only been apart two days, and he had messaged her whenever he’d had the time, but she had missed him. She had even started gazing at the armchairs near the fireplace in her drawing room and picturing him there, with his legs stretched out before him. She had imagined him in her bed too, had rolled over each night only to be disappointed by the fact he wasn’t there beside her.
She was done for.
She knew it.
She slowly turned to face him as the door closed behind the young witches, her heart fluttering as she caught sight of him. He smiled easily, his silver eyes bright with it and with love, and the warmth that curled through her turned into heat as she raked her gaze over him, taking in the black shirt that hugged his broad chest and huge biceps, and his onyx jeans that emphasised his powerful long legs.
Her wolf was gorgeous.
And he had been slowly working his way into every aspect of her life.
Now, she had reached the point where she couldn’t imagine life without him.
Where she didn’t want to be apart from him.
“Your wolf, am I?” He eased into the room, moving sensually like the predator he was, rousing the fire in her veins and making her itch to peel his clothing off him and show him that he was hers.
“Maybe.” She bustled over to the counter and closed the books her students had left behind.
It still felt good to be back in her house, with her books and her work. All her precious tomes and ingredients had survived, and she’d had several customers waiting for her when she had returned, all of them eager to continue their business with her.
Kin came up behind her and braced his hands against the counter on either side of her, trapping her. “Say I’m yours, Hella.”
His breath teased her nape, sending a shiver down her arms and spine, and she couldn’t stop her eyes from slipping shut as she focused on him and how close he was to her, how his big body caged hers.
“Hella.” His gaze shifted to her nape and she sensed the rising tension in him, saw it in the way his fingers flexed against the wooden top. He was still a moment in which her heart raced, and then he eased back and muttered, “We talked about this.”
She turned in his arms when he reached for the pins holding her hair in place away from her nape, effectively stopping him. Rather than undoing her hair, he swept his fingers across her cheek, his earnest gaze holding a hint of pain that she hated.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered and placed her hand over her nape. “It’s so hot today and you were supposed to come later than this. I was going to change before you got here.”
She reluctantly reached for the pin.
Hesitated.
Hella gazed up into his eyes, her courage failing her for what felt like the hundredth time since Kin had vowed that he would never bite her.
Never was beginning to feel like a long time.
She had enjoyed it at first. He had taken the pressure off and she had felt free to be with him, assured that he would never take things too far and try to bond with her.
But now…
Over the last two weeks, she had found herself dreaming about him claiming her and she had started wondering whether he really didn’t want to do it.
