Kin raised his claws to strike.

And hesitated as several nymphs came rushing out of the woods.

If he killed their king, they would come after him and Hella. She would never be free. But if he didn’t kill him…

Oberon appeared in a swirl of black mist, took one look into Kin’s eyes and disappeared again.

The unseelie appeared right in front of Ethyrian and the male grunted, his mouth bursting open and blood exploding from it as his head lurched forwards, over Oberon’s shoulder.

Oberon stepped back, pulling his hand free from the nymph’s chest, and the male fell to his knees and then onto his side, his wide eyes staring into nothing. The unseelie looked at his bloodied arm and Kin swallowed hard as he spotted the heart the male gripped.

Oberon lifted it before him, watching it with interest as it continued to beat a few times.

When it went still, he held it out to the nymph guards and said something in the language Hella’s spell couldn’t translate for him.

Hella stumbled onto her feet and Kin hurried to her, gathering her into his arms.

Oberon casually discarded the heart and came to him, and Kin turned to thank him for his help and for taking the focus of the nymphs’ anger off him and Hella.

He grimaced as the unseelie pressed his bloodied hand to the left side of Kin’s chest.

Oberon uttered words and dipped his head as his hand dropped from Kin’s chest and he stepped back.

Kin grunted as fire seared his chest and he looked down, his eyes widening as a glittering gold spark chased over his skin, searing him with a circular mark that contained what looked like a stag and a dragon, and symbols appeared around it.

“It’s different to Fenix’s brand,” Hella murmured, still sounding a little groggy.

“You may teleport your fated one to safety now.” Oberon slowly pivoted to face the guards, his crimson eyes narrowing on them.

Kin wasn’t sure how to thank him. Not only for giving him a brand that meant he could teleport. Not just use portals, but apparently teleport. He also needed to thank the unseelie for taking the heat off him and Hella.

He owed Oberon a debt.

And something about the way the male looked at him as he slid his crimson eyes towards him said that he knew it and would be cashing it in sooner rather than later.

“Go,” the male said. “I will ensure these nymphs do not follow you and will leave you alone from now on.”

Oberon didn’t need to tell Kin twice.

“Thank you.” Kin scooped Hella into his arms and ran with her, placing some distance between him and the nymphs as Oberon launched his attack. When he was closer to the black towers, he stopped and looked down at Hella. “Any idea how to teleport, lass?”

“Close your eyes, click your heels and say there’s no place like home three times.” She was being sassy, and it was a relief to hear it, because it told him she was going to be all right.

Willing to give anything a shot, Kin gathered her against his chest.

Closed his eyes.

Knocked his heels together.

And uttered.

“There’s no place like home.”

Chapter 33

Hella grimaced as a loud bang came from upstairs, causing Annabel, the youngest witch in the trio before her, to jump.

It had been close to six weeks since Prince Oberon had gifted MacKinnon with a mark that allowed him to teleport, and her wolf was no closer to mastering the ability. Still, landing in her bedroom was better than his first teleport, which had ended with them plunging into the centre of the lake in the heart of her fae town.
