“I have an early morning. But I’m sure I’ll see you both soon since I haven’t been able to get rid of you yet.”

I opened my mouth to respond, but it died on my tongue. What was I going to do, beg her to follow her up?

Could have been worse. But I knew me and my hand were going to have a late-night rendezvous.

“We’ll see you very soon,” Reed promised and pulled her in for a kiss.

Amanda hopped out of the back seat and turned to my window, where she motioned for me to roll it down.

I did as she asked. “You know, we’d be more than happy to walk you upstairs. We are gentlemen, or at least I am,” I said, unable to resist throwing a jab at the guy still in my back seat.

“You can see my apartment from here. And I know you’ll sit here and watch until I make it inside anyway.”

“Okay, but—”

Her finger covered my mouth and cut off my argument. She shook her head slowly twice as a warning she wasn’t hearing anything more of what I had to say.

“Just kiss me, Josh.”

And who was I to deny her? She stood on her toes and reached into the truck, gripping the back of my neck to pull me closer to her mouth. My hand found her cheek, and the moment our lips touched, she was already opening for me.

I pushed my tongue inside her mouth, and the taste of Reed immediately hit my tongue. It was different than I expected.

I was kissing Amanda after she’d had Reed’s dick and cum in her mouth. And my reaction wasn’t one that I was prepared for. I didn’t stop.

Instead, I let my tongue push deeper, sweeping along hers and drawing out the most delicious moan. It was Amanda that pulled back first.

“Damn,” she said, settling back onto her feet, a glazed look of desire spreading across her features. “Good night, boys.”

With a last wave, she hurried up the steps, unlocked her apartment door, and slipped inside.

I didn’t move until Reed opened the back door and slid into the front seat.

Usually on a drive like that one, we would turn on some music, maybe sit in companionable silence, or discuss whatever came to mind. But that drive, although silent, was still different from any time before.

We weren’t going to talk about what just happened. Or at least I wasn’t, since I wasn’t positive what it was. And based on Reed’s behavior, I couldn’t imagine he knew either.

I found myself laser-focused on the road ahead of me, yet unable to stop thinking about the guy to my right. Reed’s knee bounced, and he fidgeted with his seat belt a few times before he thankfully pulled out his phone. His fidgeting only elevated my own anxiety that I was doing a shit job of managing.

Sadly, the music was only a low hum in the background, and I couldn’t force my attention from the road to turn it louder. The button being only a few inches from my hand didn’t matter when I was already straining to keep my eyes forward.

The tires spinning against the street sounded louder against the quiet. A quiet that was loaded with something.

TWENTY-SEVEN

Reed

“We should’ve probably calledor texted her first. She’s going to be pissed that we just showed up.”

I lumbered up the stairs carrying my duffel bag along with a bagful of food while Josh followed behind me carrying his own bag and another full of other supplies. Against the wind, we climbed to the second floor and toward Amanda’s apartment.

The winter storm was still hours out, yet the temperature had dropped nearly twenty degrees throughout the day. The possibility of snow and ice had shut down most of the state, including schools and most businesses.

“Finding new ways to annoy her has always been our job.”

Amanda told us she was prepared for the incoming storm, but her texts were vague and unconvincing. We had to see it for ourselves. Actually, I was going to see it for myself, and Josh was separately going to see it for himself. We ran into each other in the kitchen, both preparing to go to her apartment.

With a bag slung over each of our shoulders, it was clear that was both of our intentions. And the argument that ensued was pointless. One of us didn’t deserve her more. We couldn’t know who she’d want to see more.
