I nod.
“The one who you said was off limits?” Blake pipes up, his eyes burning the side of my face, so now I’ve got both of my brother’s undivided attention.
“I thought you we’re asking her out. Did you?”
Swallowing thickly, I ignore the way the two of them talk over the top of each other. “She was in the speakeasy bar on Saturday, the one I was supposed to be meeting you at. One thing led to another, we got on talking and she confessed her attraction, so…”
“Are you dating her?”
I shake my head at Blake’s question. “Delilah doesn’t date.”
“Why not?”
I shrug.
Hudson leans over to steal the rest of Blake’s energy bar, stuffing it in his mouth while he talks. “So, it was just a one-night stand?”
“A two nightstand, I stayed over on Sunday.”
“But it’s obvious you like her. Hasn’t this just made things more complicated between the two of you, especially if she’s still going to be showing up for swimming lessons?”
I can’t answer that because Blake is right.
“I—”
“Just ask her out,” Hudson speaks around his mouthful of food.
“She doesn’t date, Hudson.”
“And?” He shrugs his large shoulders, crushing the granola bar wrapper in his fist. “You like her, so it’s simple. Tell her. Change her mind.”
Chapter 14
Grey
Me: I finished it.
Ihit send on my text message to Delilah, the romance novel I’ve just finished devouring laying on the empty side of my bed.
Hudson’s words of advice churn around my mind.Just tell her. Change her mind.
Two grey ticks light up the screen of my phone, quickly turning blue as Delilah reads my message. I flick my tired eyes up to the time in the corner, finding it to be the early hours on Wednesday morning.
Delilah: did you like it? x
Me: weren’t you going to tell me it ended on a cliffhanger? x
Delilah: nope x
Me: I need the second book asap x
My thumbs bounce across the screen, thinking of what to say next.
Me: I didn’t expect you to be up so late x
Delilah: couldn’t sleep… just getting on with some work instead x
Me: You work too much :/
