Jody’s lip was cut open and a red palm print was imprinted on her cheek. I wanted to storm over to the Roulex and tear out their throats with my bare hands, but the fucking tractor beam kept me frozen in place.

One of these days they would slip up and I’d kill each and every one of them. And I’ll enjoy every fucking second as I tear them to shreds. I’ll look them in the eyes as I do it too. I’ll laugh in their faces so they can feel the terror they dish out on everyone else.

They locked the cell behind her and the tractor beam holding me in place eased, my muscles softening from the hold. I flew toward them.

Jody let out a squeal, throwing herself out of the way and landing with a loud crack.

Her scream rent my soul.

“Jody.” I knelt beside her.

Pain etched her features, but she pushed up, wincing as she moved away from me. She thought I was going to hurt her. As much as she’d angered me that she had taken a deal with the Roulex, I wouldn’t raise a hand against her, but I would protect myself and innocents.

“Let me see your injury, I think you may have dislocated your shoulder.”

“I’m fine.” She raised her chin, but her bottom lip quivered and tears filled her eyes.

There was an underlying current of something else besides pain laced in her voice like oil on water. “What is it?”

“Nothing.” She scooted away from me more. Her face screwed up in pain as her shoulder brushed the stone wall.

“You need to fix your arm, or it will only keep hurting.” When I took a step toward her, she shrieked.

“Don’t. I-I can’t control myself.” Her eyes widened and my heart squeezed. “They gave me something to mate with you. I-I didn’t realize…I thought you were crazy.”

Fuck! They must have given her the libido drugs they pumped into uncooperative prisoners. The stuff was like skating an orgasm without the release. I’d had it given to me often, but I’d never relented though it had taken all of my willpower and then some.

“I will help you if you let me.”

“Why?” She choked out a sob. “I did this to myself. And I can’t let him down—”

Him? My wings ruffled that she might be doing this for a male. Of course. The Roulex must have bribed both of them to do this and they’d pay a fortune to get a half-Angeliminir baby.

I didn’t even know who this man was, but I already hated him. Hated that she’d sell her body like this for him regardless of the reason.

“If you trust me, I can fix your arm and ease what they did to you.”

“How?” she panted. “Th-They want us to make a baby for them. I’m so sorry I didn’t believe what you said about them.”

I swallowed against the lump forming in my throat. Don’t know why I cared so much that she finally trusted what I’d told her. “First we need to fix your shoulder, all right?”

She nodded, squeezing her eyes shut tight and tears flowed down her cheeks. I wanted to take away all her pain. Kiss her until she forgot all the horrible stuff in this world, everything except me and her.

Except neither of us could have that dream right now, maybe not ever.

I swallowed the dread that I was going to have to hurt her and eased forward. Carefully I grabbed her injured arm and she let out a muffled whimper.

As quickly as I could, I moved her injured arm to the right position.

“On three—”

“Just do it.” She glared at me.

I shoved her arm up and in. The shoulder joint popped into place and she yelled through gritted teeth. Her pain made me want to punch something.

To give her space, I backed away. Her breathing calmed down.
