“Exactly. Only Earthling food.” I leaned against the wall, crossing one leg over the other, my hands behind my head.

“Pizza.” She got a far-off look in her gaze.

“Why? I’ve never had this…what makes it special?”

She went on to describe how to make one and the different ingredients. Might as well have been speaking one of the seven languages of the Hagimerites that I could never get right. Knox had excelled at all languages as did many of us. I only knew a fraction of them, but because of my love of human books, I spoke dozens of their languages including Jody’s English.

“And the cheese is all melty and gooey and yum.” Her eyes half-closed and a look of bliss crossed her face.

I’d never been so jealous of food before. Would she enjoy Angeliminir food? We didn’t have any of this cheese she spoke of. Just fruits, vegetables, and grains.

Jody stifled a yawn, stretching. “Don’t know why I’m so tired. Haven’t really done anything all day.”

Depression. Boredom? The latter was new to me. This was the longest I’d gone without a beating or torture and it was all because of Jody. Which meant the Roulex were happy we were getting along.

Fuck.

I slammed my hand down on the stone floor and Jody jumped.

“Space roach,” I said.

She shivered, paling. “Are there many of them here? I hate bugs.”

“No,” I lied. “Only once in a while do they make it this far in.”

She visibly relaxed. “Good. Thanks.”

“Get some rest.” I turned away from her. Better enjoy my reprieve from the Roulex for now. They wouldn’t be patient for too much longer.

If I didn’t have sex with Jody soon, they’d come and punish me. I didn’t care. I was used to pain.
