“Leave before I throw you off my property.”

Blake’s body jerked forward, wanting to run to her aid. He would never allow a man to lay hands on his woman. He stopped himself just as his hand reached for the door. She hadn’t called for him, nor would his interference do any good. He forced himself to stay in place and let his love flood the bond.

“Niev, please leave. We don’t want you here,” her mother spoke up.

“Mom, please just let us talk.”

“Vera, go inside. Now!”

Niev’s mother turned on her heels and disappeared out of view.

“If you ever come back here again, I will have you dragged out of this town for everyone to see. Do you know how much distress your absence has caused your mother? She was just healing and now you’re just destroying things again. We should have never let Pastor Mayors talk us into raising you as our own. You were nothing but a disappointment.”

Blake could feel Niev’s shock and the blatant disrespect those words meant to her. Her mind dove into the bond, not just to pull him closer, but to also take strength from him and his love. He immediately started the engine. As he stopped before the house, he could see her straightening her shoulders and rubbing her stomach, revealing her baby bump.

“Of course, how could I have been so blind to your suffering,” she snarled. “My family and I won’t bother you ever again.”

She turned on her heels and gracefully toward Blake, her head held high. He quickly jumped out of the truck and took her hand in his. Kissing her knuckles, he guided her to the passenger side and helped her in.

“Let’s get you home, beautiful.”

Old Loves

“I’m sorry for making you come all the way out here,” she whispered as they drove by the farmer’s market.

“There is no need for you to apologize.” He chuckled slightly. “Is your family well known?”

“Everyone knows everyone in this town.”

Blake pulled onto a side street, surprising Niev. He found a shady spot and parked.

“What are you doing?”

He grinned mischievously. “Well, I just remembered we need a few things for dinner tonight.”

“Oh Blake, you’re such a troublemaker!”

“He embarrassed you. He deserves to be the gossip of this town. I’m sure their neighbors heard the fight already, but this will just add to it. Come on, my beautiful wife, it’s time I show you off.”

“I think I’m showing you off here,” she giggled and climbed out of the truck.

Blake found a basket in the back of the truck, so he held it in one hand while Niev’s arm was hooked into his other. He leaned down and kissed her head, lovingly running his nose through her hair.

“I want everyone to know you’re mine, so don’t hide our girls. I want everyone to see you’re carrying our future.”

His words made goosebumps appear on her skin. The bond filled with a proud heat as he walked her down the street to the market. At this time, it was very busy, and Niev saw a lot of familiar faces.

“Maybe we can have dinner with Jason,” Blake suggested. “We’ll be heading through Clemont anyway, might as well end this day with him.”

“Let me text him.”

As Blake guided her through the market Niev had her head down texting Jason.

Hi,

Long time no see.

Sorry about that! Blake and I will be in Clemont tonight. Want to have dinner together?
