A chorus of cheers sounds through the stadium as the scorecard changes to 3-2 and the referee blows the whistle to end the game. I turn to Rylee and we squeal at the same time, jumping into each other’s arms to celebrate the nail-biting win.

All the Raiders players circle Jaylen on the pitch and congratulate him on the goal. A warm smile spreads across his face as he hugs his team members. It’s a heartwarming scene to witness. My eyes widen when I see Miles pat Jaylen on the shoulder and offer him a smile, which Jaylen returns.

Maybe they managed to sort out their differences in the locker room, which will make my conversation with Miles easier later on.

But first, I have to go see Jaylen. Maybe I’ll give him a special surprise to congratulate him on the win.

“I’m going to see my brother before we leave,” I tell the girls—a white lie—as we leave our seats and walk into the foyer. The throng of fans moves past us so quickly that it feels like they’re moving at twice the speed.

“Where should we meet you then? Jay is going for drinks with her boy toy, so instead of going home, we should also hit the town. I fancy a fruity cocktail after that win,” Candie says with a smile.

“That sounds great,” I say and return her smile. I don’t know how long I’m going to be with Jaylen and Miles, so I don’t want the girls to be waiting for me for too long. “You decide on a bar and I’ll meet you there.”

They nod and hug me goodbye before heading toward the exit. After a moment of standing in the middle of the foyer, I make my way to a different exit that is closer to the back door that leads from the locker room out to the staff parking lot. I can still remember how fast my heart was racing when I left through that exit after Jaylen gave me his shirt to wear with no panties. The adrenaline coursing through my veins was exhilarating. Almost being caught by the team had my heart racing nervously, but the adrenaline outweighed it.

I had called a taxi to take me home and the driver was a little confused to see me slide into the back seat with dripping wet hair in an oversized T-shirt. If only he knew the real reason. When I got home, the girls weren’t home since they stayed for the second half, so I made sure to clean up and put on my pajamas before they returned. I texted them to say that I had gone home because I wasn’t feeling well—again. Yes, I know. It’s a lame excuse, but one that worked in my favor.

And now weeks later I’m standing in the same spot I waited for the taxi driver to arrive, now waiting for Jaylen to walk through the door. I pace impatiently, eager to see him. He hasn’t sent a text to let me know what he’s doing, but it’s been long enough since the end of the game that he should be here soon.

My head snaps up at the sound of the creaky metal door swinging open. Jaylen steps out in his uniform with his hair a sweaty mess, the curls hanging loosely around his face. Even covered in grass and sweat, he still looks delicious enough to devour.

Control yourself, Evie, my subconscious reminds me.

When Jaylen’s baby-blue eyes meet mine, he smiles. “My little angel.”

The words make my heart stutter in my chest.

I take a step forward, and so does he. “Good game. That winning goal was a sight to see.”

He smiles and runs a hand through his messy hair. “I was a little worried for a moment there. I thought we were fucked.”

“But as usual, you managed to bring the Raiders another victory. Maybe… you deserve a treat.”

Jaylen’s eyes widen at my words before a smirk forms on his lips. His eyes darken as he takes another step forward, his hands lifting to rest on my hips. He pulls my body flush against his chest, and a squeak of surprise slips past my lips.

“Well, if my girl is offering, who am I to say no?”

I don’t know what it is about Jaylen, but whenever I’m around him, I turn into a different person. The primal need to rip his clothes off and devour him is strong, consuming every rational part of my brain. But I also want to explore every inch of his skin and kiss him tenderly. With the way he’s looking at me, his eyes filled with lust and specks of red taking over his irises, I know he feels the same.

My hands drag down the front of his stained jersey feather-light, wanting to tease him. If he wants a treat, he’s going to have to work for it. I can feel how hard he is for me already. My core tightens as my pussy throbs.

“Teasing me, are you?” he groans and drags his lip ring into his mouth. “You’re going to be the death of me.”

The sound of a gun cocking in the still air forces my eyes wide. Jaylen’s face mirrors mine.

“No, I'm going to be the one to cause your death, bloodsucker.”

With my heart in my throat, I look past Jaylen to see Miles standing behind him with a gun pointed directly at the back of his head. His eyes are hard and tense, no longer the vibrant green I’m used to seeing. Instead, they’re almost… black. And soulless. He’s dressed head to toe in black clothing as if he hadn’t just been playing a game of soccer less than thirty minutes ago.

“Miles?” My voice is shaky. I’m finding it hard to comprehend what I’m looking at right now. Why the fuck is he holding a gun to Jaylen’s head? And did he call him a bloodsucker?

“Get away from him, Evie,” Miles demands, not looking at me. “He’s dangerous.”

“So, it was you,” Jaylen says slowly, licking his lips. He’s staring past the top of my head, our chests still touching as he grips my waist firmly. “You masked your scent well.”

“What?” I ask, snapping my head up to look at Jaylen. “What do you mean by that? What happened?”
