Upon entering the room, I find a nurse by the side of the bed, checking the machines connected to his body and writing everything down on the clipboard in her left hand.
“All good?”
“All good, Mrs. Kral, nothing to worry about.” I’m not going to stop worrying until we get out of here.
“Lionel,” I mumble when we’re finally alone. “Bizarre things are happening. Jackson, Jackson Cole has been talking to me but I don’t know much or understand what he’s saying. He told me that while you were with me, you were also…”
Beep, beep, beep.
The noise of the machine echoes in the silence of the room.
I continue to hold his hand, squeezing it gently, I need this connection with him.
“Wake up and fix this mess. You’re the only one who can, baby. You’re the only one who knows all the answers.”
“Baby,” I hear him say in a hoarse voice as those beautiful eyes the color of melted chocolate open.
It takes me a moment to realize what is happening.
“Lionel!” I scream, full of emotion, my eyes filling with tears.
“Who are you?”
Chapter Seven
“Lionel, love,” I shout again when I see him open his eyes. “My God, this is…”
“Hmm… Hmm…” he whispers, closing his eyes again, the light bothering him.
I don’t even know what to do with myself. I kiss his hands, his cheeks, his forehead.
He woke up. Lionel just woke up!
“God, I need to call the doctor. I’ll be right back.”
I run out of the room to call the nurse, feeling like my feet are hardly touching the floor. Luckily, I don’t have to take more than a couple of steps to reach the station, one of the nurses who usually tends to him is already standing there because I haven’t stopped screaming for help.
“Mrs. Kral,” she says as she approaches me.
“Brittany, Lionel woke up,” I squeal, removing the mask from my mouth and she smiles.
“It was to be expected,” she informs me. “With the reduction of medication the doctor ordered, he’ll begin to spend more time conscious, although he will continue to sleep a lot.”
Yes, yes, that’s all good and well, but someone needs to check on him and make sure everything’s fine.
“I’ll send a message to the doctor, and we’ll be with you in just a moment.”
I remember the doctor was optimistic about his diagnosis, however seeing him open his eyes takes everything to the next level.
At that moment I remember I should probably inform Lionel’s mother, but I have no idea how to contact her.
I return to the room almost jumping for joy, this is truly a miracle.
A true miracle.
My heart is beating so fast, it might come out of my chest. Thanks to whoever moves this universe, thank you because my husband has returned to me.
We’ll have time to fix the rest.
