I’d tell her anything to get her to release me from my hospital prison cell.

“And before you leave, I’m going to send you down to have that cast put on.”

Again, I nodded.

“One more thing…I’m going to give you a couple of phone numbers for some counselors. I don’t think you’re fully dealing with this trauma, and they can help if things begin to feel too heavy.”

This time, my nod wasn’t so enthusiastic. Therapy was never for me, and I didn’t think that was about to change. I didn’t like discussing my problems with those I loved let alone people I didn’t even know.

“And Mr. Wendell, if you’ll follow me into the hallway. I’ll get you all of her discharge instructions.”

With a quick peck on the lips, he followed her out of the room. I heaved a sigh of relief, knowing soon, I would be back in my own home, able to sleep in my own bed.
