“Exactly.”

“You are a real son of a bitch!”

“Doesn’t change the facts, Missy.”

I walked her out and watched her leave the compound, then I let everyone who needed to know that she wasn’t welcome back here. It was the right move, even if it fucked with my head a little bit. I didn’t see Missy and me going the distance, and she proved to me why that wouldn’t be possible anyway, but damn, in some ways, I’d still miss her. She was the first woman I ever spent time with as a couple with no other sexual partner in the mix.

Star

“Star, I hear a bike, and that isn’t Mack’s. Can you go let whoever it is know that he isn’t here right now, to check the clubhouse?” Viv asked me when I brought her soup.

“Of course. I wonder why they didn’t check the clubhouse to begin with?” We both shrugged our shoulders simultaneously in answer to my question.

The knock on the door was gentle, but I heard it while on my way to answer. To my surprise, Trench was standing on the other side when I pulled the door open.

“Hey,” he started out and then smiled down at me for a minute.

“My uncle isn’t here. You should probably check the clubhouse.”

“Yeah, I would do that if I’d been looking for him,” the beautiful man mentioned. When I just stood there staring at him he chuckled. “I came looking for you, Star.”

“Me? Why?”

“Not sure if you’ve looked in the mirror lately, but you’re gorgeous. I like your style, and think you’d be cool to hang out with.”

“Oh.” That was my all-too eloquent response as I stood there perched in the doorway of my aunt and uncle’s house.

“Stop being weird and invite the man inside,” Aunt Viv called out from her room.

“Stop overexerting yourself!” I yelled back before stepping out of the way and waving Trench inside. “Sorry, I grew up in the clubhouse, so I don’t actually have manners.”

That caused both Trench and Viv to laugh. Her laughter died off into a fit of coughing though, which made me feel a little bad.

“I’m fine.”

“Let’s go to the kitchen,” I suggested, knowing that Viv wouldn’t be able to hear us talking in there.

“I think it’s really good of you to be here for your aunt.”

“She was there for me when I needed her. It would make me a shitty person if I refused to be here.”

“I guess it might,” he agreed. “So, the thing I came over here for, was to see if someone would be around with Vivian this evening so I could take you out to dinner.”

“You want to take me out to dinner?”

“That’s what I just asked,” he laughed as he said it.

“Okay, smartass. Well, Uncle Mack should be back soon,” I started to tell him right as the front door opened.

“Honey, I’m home!” Uncle Mack yelled through the house. “I brought deli soup and crackers that you like,” he continued as he made his way into the kitchen and finally noticed Trench and me standing there. He tipped his head to Trench and then glanced between the two of us a few times before he grabbed some silverware, smiled, and walked away.

“I guess that means you’re free for dinner?”

“It does. Do you mind waiting for me to change?”

“Not at all. Do you mind riding on the bike? I didn’t think about it before I rode over here.”
