She'd come to Seaglass Cove, and their paths crossed. That had to fucking mean something.
Havlin members lived a hard life. There were a few things that excited him. Cora was the good he searched for. The sweetness he craved. The person he wanted.
He wouldn't let her go, regardless of how things turned out with her brother.
Wire pulled into the driveway at home, jumped off his bike, and jogged to the front door. Once inside, he went straight to the bedroom and opened the closet. He took the duffle off the top of the shelf, threw out the old boots he kept inside until he found the one with the knotted shoelace, and reached inside.
He pulled out a bundle of cash. Thumbing through the stack, he counted out fifteen thousand dollars. Finding a rubber band in the kitchen junk drawer, he secured the money and put it in his vest pocket.
His next step— the car lot in town where Havlin Motorcycle Club ran security. They wouldn't think twice about selling him a car and taking his cash.
Chapter Twenty Eight
BROOKE STOOD INSIDE Whale's Tail, waiting for Maverick to pick her up. Cora shut off all the lights inside the shop. They were the only two in the building. Dania had already left.
"Um, Cora?"
"Yeah?" She pulled out the keys from her purse.
"Wire's outside pointing at me to get you." She laughed. "He's terrible at hand signals, by the way. It's cute."
"W.T.F.?" She walked to the door and peered outside. "What's he doing now?"
Sure enough, Wire stood on the sidewalk. When he spotted her, he motioned for her to come outside.
"Go ahead. I'm locking the door as soon as Maverick shows up." Brooke opened the door for her. "Have fun."
"Thanks." She stepped outside.
Wire hitched his chin. She looked down the sidewalk and spotted Brooke's husband walking their way. She hurried over to Wire.
Stretching to her toes, she kissed him. "Did you have a good day?"
"Yep." He stepped off the sidewalk and held out his hand. "Come here."
She grasped his fingers and jumped off the curb into the street. He led her around a car and stopped at the driver's door.
Opening the door, he motioned for her to get in. She studied him. Although he wasn't smiling, he looked pleased with himself.
"What's going on?" she asked, aware Maverick and Brooke remained on the sidewalk, watching them. "Who's car is this?"
"Yours." He took her hand and pulled her closer. "Check it out and see if you like it. You can drive it around town and pull in behind the clubhouse when you're done."
"Mine?" She shook her head. "That doesn't make sense."
He braced his hand on the top of the car. "You don't need to drive the Sprinter back and forth between the house and work every day. You're living with me, so you need a car."
"Wire—"
"Go on." He backed away. "Keys are in the ignition."
Her heart raced. What was he doing?
He kept walking, holding his word. He'd return to the clubhouse and wait for her.
She looked in the car. What was she supposed to do?
Would he think she was some kind of woman who took expensive things from a man?
