Chapter 33

The police walked offthe Slag Motorcycle Club property. Roar motioned for the prospect to close the gate. The raid came at a perfect time. While all eyes were on the Portland Chapter, up in Seattle, his father was loading the cargo ship with the supplies going to Norway.

"Brage, call my father. Let him know everything went off without a hitch." Roar turned around. "Viktor, where's Lizzy?"

"Haven't seen her, Prez," said Viktor before yelling at Peer that he needed a drink.

"Lizzy!" He weaved his way through his men.

"Ah, Prez?" Marcus approached him. "There might be a problem."

"Spit it out." Roar kept moving, searching.

Marcus hurried to stay beside him. "Your woman overheard Ben and me."

Roar stopped. "What?"

"We, uh,..." Marcus rubbed his cheek. "Mentioned the carving you did on the Lagsturns' member."

"Fuck," he muttered, turning away.

He needed to find Lizzy. His purpose for having her at the clubhouse tonight was for her protection. He knew that if she'd gone home and noticed the cop cars surrounding the club, she would've rushed over. She would've run to the first policeman she spotted and shared her fears over her worry about him. Local police and the Feds would've had eyes on her.

Pushing past Brage, he lunged for the door handle when he found Lizzy sitting outside on the ground with her back against the building. His chest seized. Had she been injured in the chaos?

Coco looked up from sitting beside Lizzy and scrambled to her feet, putting her hands out to stop him. "Stay away from her."

"Get out of my way, Coco."

"You did this to her. I’m not going to let you hurt her again." Coco stepped back and reached down, pulling Lizzy to her feet.

Ignoring Coco, he focused on Lizzy. She wouldn't meet his eyes.

"Lizzy, look at me," he said softly.

Coco held on to Lizzy. "Can't you see you've put her through enough tonight?"

Damnit, he'd wanted her protected. He wanted her to see that he had things under control. He wanted her to believe in Slag Motorcycle Club.

Instead, he'd scared her.

He looked to Coco. "Wait over there for us."

"I'm not leaving her." Coco lifted her chin. "It's late. She's tired. She's confused. I think it's best if I take her home and let her sleep. Maybe tomorrow in the day after she's had some time to think would be better to talk with her."

Lizzy cupped her forehead with her hand. He bent slightly, trying to see her face.

"Lizzy?" he said, needing her to give him something. "Please, look at me."

She raised her gaze and shook her head slowly. "I can't..."

He looked away at what he'd done. It was almost five o'clock in the morning. The raid had taken longer than he'd thought. She was dead on her feet.

"I'll take you both home," he said.

Coco looked around. "Maybe Elling could—"

"I said, I'll walk you home." He motioned for them to head for the gate.
