As she leaned back, she closed her eyes, and held onto Jax’s hand like her life depended on it.

Because it did.

There was only one question in her mind, and it was if she had to kill Alexsandr, would she be strong enough to pull it off, or would he prove that he’d broken her enough?

Alyona prayed she didn’t find out.

If there was a God, a higher power, then, maybe, just maybe, she wouldn’t have to face down this monster. Maybe, she’d get a gift, and could just go home.

That’s all she wanted.

To leave New Orleans.

When this was all over, if she lived to tell about it, Alyona needed a little break.

She needed to slip away and regroup to think about her life, and her past.

Mostly that.

Because this was testing everything in her, and making her feel out of control.

And that scared her.
