Chapter Two

Airplane

Somewhere over Virginia

Same Time

Thursday

As predicted, it had been no easy task getting Alyona on the jet, but somehow, with a little cajoling, he’d managed. Ajax knew she was freaking the fuck out, but when you were in the family, you had to do what you had to do.

The head of their family wanted her there, so that meant they were doing it.

Honestly, if it were up to him, he’d hide her away, but he understood Greyson’s thinking.

There was one thing standing between Alyona and healing.

Alexsandr’s death.

She needed to face the fears, and then begin healing from them.

Besides that, Greyson might need their help, and that meant that he’d have to stick close to his girl to make sure that she was okay.

From where Alyona sat, her fear was palpable. Even though it was just the two of them on the jet, other than the pilots, she was still shaking.

Oh, and he knew what she was thinking.

That she didn’t want to do this.

As her boyfriend and lover, it was his job to talk her down from this. The last thing Ajax wanted was a runaway girlfriend.

AGAIN.

“Baby, we have this. It’s all going to work out and be good. Greyson only wants us there in case he needs us. It’s a last case scenario.”

She was sweating, and that was a sure sign that she was contemplating jumping out of the plane. It was a testament to the torture that Alexsandr had inflicted on her if a freefall to her death was the better choice.

Alyona didn’t even answer him.

“Baby, breathe. You’re going to pass out if you hyperventilate at this height.

She was trying.

Really.

Only, it wasn’t easy.

“He’s not going to get me, right?” she asked, looking over at Jax, and hoping he was going to lie to her if he thought that she was in danger.

“No way, Baby.”

A single tear dripped down her cheek, and it hit him hard in the heart.

She was suffering.

Wiping it away, Jax gave her a kiss. When he broke it, he was honest.
