That’s what she needed.
Someone wasn’t thinking straight.
“You changed your face when you went missing, correct?” he asked.
She nodded.
Jax continued.
“That means he doesn’t know what you look like, right?”
She nodded again.
And here went the voice of reality.
“So how would he ever know who you are? You are safe, and Greyson already explained this to you. You need to face your fears. If they can kill Alexsandr, they will. Then, you’re free. If they need us, we have to help. If he gets away, we’ll never be free of him.”
Alyona took it all in.
The rational part of her head knew that, but it was the incredibly scared stupid part of her that didn’t.
Thus, the issue.
In her mind, she kept flashing back to her past, and the year of torture and rape she’d endured.
She remembered his final words to her that still terrorized her to today.
‘If you ever try to get away from me, Alina, I will never let you die. I will let everything with a dick use you, and I will make sure every day is nothing but pain. If you betray me, I will keep you alive just to watch you beg for death.’
And she believed it.
He was a sadistic fuck who thought nothing of women but to use and discard them. It was why he always traveled with his female security and soldiers.
Women were malleable.
Breakable.
Disposable.
Holding her hand, Jax brought their joined knuckles to his mouth.
“You have to trust me. Don’t run, Aly. Your father loves you, and so do I. I won’t let anyone hurt you. I’d die to keep you safe. We will lay low, and when we’re needed IF we’re needed, we’ll make an appearance. That’s all we have to do for now.”
She knew he was right.
Jax wouldn’t lie to her.
Someone needed to start thinking, and that someone was her.
“Okay, I’ll be good. The place is secure, right?” she asked, wanting to be safe.
That was paramount.
He nodded, and tried to reassure her the best that he could.
“It belongs to Elizbeth Blackhawk. She and your father are friends. Greyson respects her. You’ll be safe there or she wouldn’t have had you come here. As a woman, she understands.”
That helped.
