“Ceit was her name. She was the woman who bore Duncan’s child, but no one knows what happened to her or the baby.”
He recalled the name from the journal.
“Some say she died in childbirth, and some say she raised her child with Duncan, but hers is the empty crypt downstairs.”
Ian clued him in.
“That whole section is missing, and the journal says he was here alone. Something happened to her, or them.”
Gryphen knew what that meant.
Someone was going to try and figure that out.
“It’s the mystery of Ravensmire.”
Gryphen was curious.
“There are two crypts side-by-side, and then the third one off not far away. Could one of them be their child?”
He shook his head.
“No one knows. All we do know is there are only two sets of remains, and one of them is NOT hers. Apparently, that’s why she haunts the place.”
Ian needed to know.
“Have you seen her?”
He nodded.
“Yes, she wanders the castle, and you’ll mostly see her at the witching hour. That’s around three in the morning. That’s when she’s said to have gone up in the tower to look out over the highlands to watch for Duncan. She lit a candle up there for him every night he was away.”
Gryphen didn’t like that.
Why?
“Uh, the Master’s suite is in the tower area.”
He was aware.
“There’s a hidden access that leads up to the place she left the candle for him.”
Oh, Ian was getting excited.
“Where’s the access?”
Graham shrugged.
“It’s hidden. No one’s found it yet. The architects working on the remodel said it’s behind some of the old walls, and has yet to be found.”
Gryphen was curious.
“And Callen knows he and Chris bought Elizabeth a castle with bodies in the basement and a ghost?”
Graham nodded.
“He knows. At some point, he’s going to have the remains moved, but for now, they aren’t to be disturbed. You didn’t disturb them, did you?”
Well, that depended on the definition of disturbed.
