He.

Was.

Pissed.

Beckett didn’t look up.

“It’s Bexley’s new book. I felt like some love. She tells a good tail of lost love, found love, and strong love. I needed a little happiness. Her characters love with all their heart and trust each other.”

Ouch.

That hit the target.

Instead of going there, she tried to calm him down so they could discuss what had gone down.

“Julian texted me. He wants me in the office for a meeting tomorrow. Can you watch Autumn? I don’t think I should bring her with me.”

He just nodded.

And used his gloved thumb to flip the pages of the book.

She had to know.

“Are you angry with me?”

He nodded again.

Well, this sucked. She’d made one hell of a mess with this. It was time to own it.

“I understand that. I would just like to say that you’re right to be, Beckett. I fucked up.”

He actually tensed and looked up.

“I am?” he asked.

His face told her he was expecting a trap. Apparently, she’d been miserable to EVERYONE since Lianna came back.

Even him.

She moved closer.

“Yes. I’ve been a nightmare since she appeared here. It caught me off guard. This was my happy world, where I had my brothers, my new sisters, and you. It was built out of love and joy, and I saw her appearing as tainting it.”

Beckett didn’t move.

He was still wary.

Did his talk actually work?

Did his words get through where Julian and everyone else had failed for the last couple of weeks?

His wife seemed to be on the cusp.

She wasn’t done.

“I owe a lot of people an apology. First and foremost, you, handsome. You’re right. I assumed she could take you away because she took my ex away. I didn’t see it from your perspective. I know you’d never cheat on me. You’re the most loyal, loving, kind man I know. You’re my soulmate, and nothing she could do will change that.”

He was really surprised.
