He.

Was.

Fucked.

Once his father-in-law turned on him, it was over. That was the only thing keeping him afloat. The man believed he’d never hurt his daughter.

He believed he was being set up.

The irony was…

He didn’t kill Marny.

If this got any worse, he was in some shit.

As he sat there, flipping through the TV stations, he saw his face on the news.

What was this?

Stopping, he listened to the story.

‘Prominent attorney, Cyrus Lawley has been implicated again, but this time in another death. His mistress, Brooklyn Ashe, is seen here being taken into custody. Her girlfriend was assaulted by who is believed to be the man sleeping with her lover. The investigation is ongoing.’

Holy shit!

This was all wrong. He’d been home all night. Cyrus wasn’t out assaulting anyone.

Suddenly, he was scared.

Someone was gunning for him. He didn’t kill Marny, and he certainly didn’t try to kill Brooklyn’s girlfriend.

He was up and off of that couch fast.

Someone had to defend himself.

It looked as if that someone was him.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Police Precinct

Nine P.M.

Saturday Night

N ever let it be said that two detectives and a PI couldn’t find a way to get a guilty man to show his hand because that was exactly what had happened. With their plan, it was to smoke the man out, and it seemed that was what was going down.

Imagine their surprise when he stormed the precinct ready to play their game.

Well, well, well.

It appeared that they didn’t need that warrant to interview him. Thankfully, Tori had asked for two things. There were some loose ends.

Someone texted Jennie, and she needed to find out who. So, when she called Elizabeth, who had been eyeball deep in sexy husbands, after owing her one, she was having her do two favors.

They were going to figure this out.

As soon as they saw the man, they also called Lucian, who had been planning on a nap. Well, the whole team had to work, so he was there too.
