Was.
Pissed.
The women had some nerve testing him like this, and his own partner had crossed a line. This was exactly why he believed women should be home, barefoot, and pregnant.
They couldn’t be trusted to not be emotional and want petty payback.
When he finally sat down in his comfortable armchair, he stared at the pictures on the wall.
The women in that interrogation room had angered him beyond the point of control.
Why?
The redhead was right.
He missed his wife, and he hated that so many others lived, but his Carolyne didn’t.
She was the best person he knew, and she was gone from him.
He regretted that she’d passed, and he’d been unable to save her. He also resented his job.
He was so angry.
There weren’t words to describe it.
What bothered him even more was that he didn’t know how the woman knew anything about her, but someone had to spill it.
Had he told someone?
He wasn’t sure.
Only, he’d find out.
“Genesis will pay for this,” he muttered, his head hurting, and his brain feeling all foggy. “I’ll make sure of it,” he added.
Standing not far away, his dead wife waited, watching him. Carolyne Wilkes had a broken heart.
Only, what could she do about it?
This wasn’t like her husband.
Not at all.
And that was a problem.

T here was no doubt in Bodhi’s mind that Hailey was the woman for him. The entire way to the hotel, she pointed out the best things about the trip. There was cresting snow, the wind whipping it around, and the way it made patterns on the window of the car.
She was so damn happy about everything. She was a joy to be around, and her daughter was just like her. Bodhi couldn’t imagine loving them anymore, but each day, he absolutely did.
