At her question, her phone came to life.
It had been silent while Tori had been working, and she appreciated that.
Now, the dead could be themselves. She knew it wouldn’t last long.
“WHAT. MR. PERSONALITY. DOESN’T. KNOW. ABOUT. WON’T. HURT. US.”
Tori wasn’t having it.
“Trey, he knows. Now, stop bashing Julian. He puts up with a lot—like all of the dead. Don’t bust his balls. He’s a good boss.”
The dial went nuts.
“WE. ARE. AN. ASSET. I’M. GOING. TO. SHOW. THAT. PHOTOCOPIER. WHO. IS. BOSS. HE. IS. GETTING. EVICTED. WHEN. I. GET. HOME. I’M. THE. MVP.”
Raven looked confused at that statement, and that was saying a lot since they were accustomed to ignoring Trey. This time, he was out of control.
He said some wild shit, but a grudge match against their copier?
What?
Tori needed to get everyone caught up, and share what they had just found out regarding the one stripper.
So, she did.
She told them about Keri Hester, the rich attorney who was suspected in his wife’s disappearance, and then how the bartender worked with one of the victims.
“That’s suspicious,” Raven said. “He’s connected to two people?”
She nodded.
“Yeah, and we need to talk to the waitress. Would you guys like to handle that interview?” Tori asked. “It’s downstairs, and you guys can get some lunch. She’ll be in shortly and we need to handle some things. We’re at a disadvantage redoing this cold case.”
Bex smiled.
“A date with this man?” she asked, pointing at Raven. “Oh, sign me up. He’s hot.”
Raven grinned.
He loved this woman more than anything in the whole world. She was the mother of his child, and a good, sweet person. He was lucky to have met her. Fate had given him one hell of a gift.
“I’d love to have lunch and interview,” he said. “What will you guys be doing?” he asked.
Tori had a few things on her list.
“Well, that depends on what you found. If you have anything good, we’ll run with that. If not, we’re going to keep following the path we’ve started. It leads to the crime scene.”
They got it.
To keep the momentum going, Raven went over to the desk and picked up his notebook. Then, he shared what they’d been doing before he felt the big power surge and the energy change in the building.
“We were researching the women who were missing to see if there’s any tie to them. Other than what you just found.”
Tori was curious.
“And?” she asked.
“Well, we found something,” he said. “It seems that Aimee Lucas was a legal aid. She worked at the courthouse for the local DA’s office.”
