after the reception for the confirmation of the Elders before we can, um, consummate our marriage.”
She looked up at him. “Confirmation?”
“Yeah.” He sighed. “They’re involved in everything.”
“All the Elders in the world?”
Chase laughed. “No, just the US ones.”
“That doesn’t sound as bad as all the Elders in the world.”
“That would be difficult. Though most, if not all, will be at the wedding.”
Sabrina’s eyes widened. “Really?”
He nodded. “There will be a lot of important people at our wedding since I’m an Elder-Son. It’s a
big deal.”
She gazed across the room for a long moment and then looked down at her hands. “I don’t have
anyone except the ballet company.”
His heart squeezed for her. He hadn’t thought about that. He should have. “It’s okay. We won’t do
the traditional bride and groom’s side. As big as that church is, we’ll have a hard enough time fitting
everyone in as it is, let alone forcing everyone onto sides.”
She sat silently for a few minutes. Chase felt something hit his hand and saw a wet spot.
“Sabrina? Why are you crying?”
“Who will walk me down the aisle?” she whispered.
Chase’s heart broke for his love. Why hadn’t he thought of these things earlier? He pulled her
close and hugged her tight. “Who would you like to walk you down the aisle?”
She buried her face into his chest. “I don’t have anyone.”
His own dad wouldn’t be there and that would be hard enough. But a bride not having her dad at
her wedding? Heartbreaking. “What about Richard?” Sabrina stilled. Had he upset her?
“Would he want to?” She looked up at Chase, eyes hopeful.
He breathed a sigh of relief. “I think he’d be honored. And although most people wouldn’t
understand, the world Elders would see it as appropriate.”
“Okay.” She smiled, looking happier, if not happy.
He leaned down to bring his lips to hers. “I can’t wait for you to be my wife,” he murmured and
kissed her. He trailed his hand down her neck and she shivered. Her eyes darkened, and a thrill ran
through his body. He slid his hand down her bare arm and his thumb moved close to the side of her
