couple. When she danced, she lost herself in it. She couldn’t describe it any other way.
Martin turned to Ethan. “I’m glad you’re here to take care of her, Ethan. If you need anything, let
me know.”
“Will do, sir.” Ethan nodded and then smiled. “It’s my pleasure.”
She put on her costume for the first act, a pink party dress from the 1800s, and headed out to the
stage for more room to warm up and get her bearings. She’d been on stage with the set and props
several times, but she liked going out before the curtain went up to remind herself of the little notes in
her head.
Holden, her dance partner for the party scenes, waved when he saw her. He was a phenomenal
dancer and would join the company next season. She watched him practice his jumps as she warmed
up her feet in her pointe shoes.
Matthew Broadbent, the movie and Broadway star playing Herr Drosselmeyer, appeared in his
sweeping cape a few minutes later and greeted her with a quick hug, glancing over her shoulder
before doing so.
“Do you think your boyfriend will let me dance with you tonight?” Matt asked.
“Chase? Why wouldn’t he let us dance together? It’s part of the ballet.”
Matt laughed. “I mean at the Gala.”
“Oh!” Sabrina exclaimed and then laughed. “I forgot about that.” Opening night was a big deal,
and the beginning of the Boston Christmas party season. Before the ballet, there were cocktails. At
intermission, there was a reception, then a huge dinner and dance after the ballet finished. The
dancers attended the dinner and were expected to be social with all the big donors. “I don’t think he’d
stop me.”
“Good.” Matt grinned.
Sabrina glanced at Ethan who watched from the side of the stage, an inscrutable expression on his
face. When he saw Sabrina looking at him, he smiled.
“Those will fetch a pretty penny at intermission, I bet.”
Chase had been staring at the pink satin pointe shoes signed by Sabrina. He looked up to see
Damian standing next to him. He suppressed his desire to punch the guy in the face and held out his
hand in greeting. “Damian.”
“Chase.” They shook hands.
