was no trace of anger anywhere in his expression. Sweat glistened on both their foreheads.
“Could she win?”
“She is strong,” the Immortal said, not taking his eyes off the fight. “If anyone has the ability, she
does.”
Chase blew out a breath as suddenly Damian’s interest in her made more sense. Yes, he wanted
her for control, but for some reason, he wanted revenge on Kronos and Sabrina was the way to
destroy him.
“Will she?” Chase asked.
The Immortal’s jaw clenched. “I do not know.”
On and on they fought. When Sabrina sliced into Kronos’ bicep, the guards stepped forward and
Kronos shouted in an ancient language to stay back. At least, that’s what Chase assumed he said.
Because the guards stepped back.
He could hear Kronos talking to her, but she only growled and continued to fight.
Chase’s heart ached as he watched the fury in her face. It wasn’t the woman he knew and loved.
He knew it was Damian’s influence, but it still hurt.
It felt like the fight went on for hours. Neither could get ahead of the other. Neither faltered.
Until Sabrina slipped on a patch of wet grass and Kronos pinned her on the ground, his sword
locked on hers. She growled and yelled, but he didn’t move.
He spoke to her as she fought. Then she looked over at Chase and his heart stopped.
“My Daughter . . .”
Sabrina closed her eyes, wondering why anger coursed through her veins. Her foggy mind slowly
cleared.
She opened her eyes. An ancient Immortal leaned over her, his arm muscles bulging as he pressed
a sword against the one in her own hand. The kindness in his eyes, the gentleness in his voice. Her
heart ached and her jaw trembled.
He smiled. “Look at your husband. Look at the love he has for you.” The Immortal spoke in low,
yet commanding tones.
She blinked.
“He would sacrifice his life for you. Look at him.”
She blinked again and turned her head.
