Sabrina squinted as a memory played around the edges of her mind. She looked down at

her left hand, expecting to see something, but her hand was unadorned. “I don’t think so.”

“He has truly taken you, hasn’t he?”

“Who?” She tore her gaze from her empty hand. It made her sad to look at it.

“Your Master.” He pursed his lips.

“Master . . .” Sabrina whispered and winced again, but this time out of fear.

The man grabbed his head and let out a low groan. Sabrina went to kneel in front of

him and wished she could do something to take the pain away. She reached up to place her

hand on his cheek and he flinched but leaned into her hand. “I haven’t been touched in so

mind. He leaned away and shook his head. “There are those who would frown upon you
