Wednesday night, Chase glanced at Lance as he waited for someone to answer the door of Jayson’s

apartment.

“You think he’s playing an angle?” Lance asked.

Chase sighed. “I don’t know.” He’d talked to Richard earlier in the day and the older man had

been as shocked as Chase. “Richard said to keep my eyes open while we’re around him, but to give

him the benefit of the doubt.”

Lance frowned. “After what he did to Sabrina?”

“I know. But he claimed he was being controlled.”

“You don’t believe him?”

Chase ran his hands through his hair. “I don’t know what to believe anymore.”

The door opened and Micah greeted them with a handshake. “Hey.”

“How are you doing, Micah?”

“Oh, you know. Normal.”

Chase chuckled as he and Lance walked in and hung their coats in the closet. Micah had moved in

with Jayson after Sabrina and Chase had gotten married.

In the living room, Jayson laughed with Scott, Kyle, and Damian, who seemed out of place, being

much older than everyone else.

Chase narrowed his eyes. Something was different about him.

Jayson spotted Chase standing near the kitchen and jumped up to greet him. “Hey.” He hugged him

hard and patted his back. “Glad you came.”

“I haven’t missed one in weeks.” Chase grabbed a beer from the fridge.

“Hey, Lance. Glad you could come.”

“Really?” Lance asked with a laugh. “Didn’t seem happy with us last week.”

Jayson laughed. “Well, it did feel like you two were ganging up on us all.”

“I can’t help it if you’re obvious when you get something good.”

“I guess.” Jayson rolled his eyes.

Chase and Lance greeted the others, searching Damian’s eyes as they shook hands.

“Good to see you again, Chase,” Damian said with what appeared to be a genuine smile.

“Likewise,” Chase said slowly. “What brings you to Boston?”

“My firm has a potential client up here and wanted me to spend a few weeks wining and dining
