them. Also, it was a chance to spend time with my baby sister since she moved away.”
“I see.”
Damian tilted his head as if to say, “You don’t believe me?”
Chase clenched his jaw.
“I brought Sydney with me since we’re engaged. She—”
“You asked Sydney to marry you?” Chase stared.
Damian smiled. “I did. She’s a great woman.”
“She said she had no interest in marriage.”
“She said the same of you.”
Chase chewed his lip. “I suppose that’s true.”
Damian laughed. “I know you don’t trust me, Chase. I know how much you love Sabrina and are
protective of her. I don’t blame you one bit. But I hope I can show you I’m not that kind of man.”
Chase narrowed his eyes, wondering what his angle was. But the other man seemed completely
sincere. Keep your enemies closer . . . He glanced at Lance who raised his eyebrows and shrugged.
“I hope so, too.”
Sabrina paced in the bedroom as she waited for Chase to come home. He’d texted Ethan a few
minutes ago and Ethan was pulling on his shirt and sweatpants.
“Why are you nervous?” Ethan asked.
“I want to find out about Damian.” She turned. “Don’t you?”
“Yeah, I do.”
At long last, Sabrina heard footsteps on the stairs and Chase appeared in the doorway. She
hurried over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist.
“I thought you’d be asleep.” Chase leaned down and kissed her head.
“She’s been pacing since you texted me,” Ethan said from behind. He rubbed her back and kissed
her temple. “I’m gonna head to bed.”
Sabrina moved to the side as Chase grabbed Ethan’s neck and kissed him hard. “We’re gonna
have to figure out how to get you up here more often.”
Ethan sighed. “Your safety—”
“I know.” Chase interrupted. He stepped back and closed the door, then shoved Ethan against the
wall. “But it’s not fair that only Sabrina gets to have you.”
