him, arms reaching out, filled his mind. She stumbled, and he caught her, wrapping his arms around
her and holding her close.
Lia’s gaze flickered to him and she bit her lip.
“I know you,” he said softly.
Lia’s brows twitched, and she stared at him.
Damian tilted his head as the fuzzy feeling settled into his heart as a warm glow.
“H-have I upset you, my lord?” Lia asked.
He shook his head, sad she seemed so afraid of him. He opened his mouth to ask why, but then the
memories flooded into his mind and he knew. He winced as he saw how he’d treated her the last ten
years and he pressed his hand to his heart. “Lia?” he whispered.
She glanced up and then gasped. Her jaw trembled as her eyes filled with hope. And tears.
“Damian?”
Two sets of memories warred in his head once more. Some of affection toward his sister. Others
of him despising and abusing her. He squeezed his eyes shut and pressed the heels of his hands to his
eyes.
He felt a hand on his knee and opened his eyes to see Lia kneeling in front of him, eyes full of
love. “Have you come back to me?” she whispered.
Black memories threatened to overwhelm his mind, but he grabbed Lia and clung to her like the
light she’d been in his life as a young boy. “Lia. Oh, Lia. I’m so sorry.”
She wrapped her arms around him and pressed her cheek to his chest. “Oh, my brother. I’ve
missed you. So much.”
He pet her hair and hugged her tight. The other thoughts pressed into his mind, but he pushed them
away with all his might. He’d seen the man he’d become and it horrified him. Somehow Lia had
woken him up.
“What happened?”
Lia’s face grew dark and she shook her head. “You became another person.” Haltingly, she told
him and his dark memories confirmed her story. “If you don’t continue the plan, they’ll kill you. I’m
certain of it.”
Damian leaned back in his seat, glancing at the woman who was supposed to be his fake fiancé.
She still stared at her phone, uninterested in anything around her. “What’s wrong with her?”
