being killed. He shivered at the thought. He held her tight. She hadn’t moved away from him an inch.
He was glad.
A flash of light announced Theo’s appearance and only then did Sabrina pull away. When she did,
Chase saw the exhaustion in her face. It was after midnight back home and she’d not only performed,
but had been dragged before the world Elders with all their pride and arrogance.
“You should go home,” he said, stroking her cheek.
She stifled a yawn. “I don’t want to leave you.”
“You need to rest. I’ll be home before you know it.”
She looked between Theo and Chase, then at Richard and Tom, who both nodded. She sighed.
“Okay.”
Chase stood and cupped her cheek, kissing her full on the mouth. “I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you, too.” She brought her own hand to his cheek, and he leaned into it.
“I’ll see you soon.”
Theo stepped toward her and extended his hand to her. “Let us go, Daughter.”
“Thank you, Theo,” Chase said.
Theo nodded, and then both he and Sabrina disappeared. Chase turned to Richard and Tom. “Do
you think Kano and the others will heed Kronos’s words?”
“It would be unwise for them not to,” Richard answered. “I wouldn’t want to have any Immortal
angry at me, let alone the wrath of Kronos.”
“We’ll keep an eye on them. Your father,” Tom said, turning to Alex, “said he and the other
Germans would help.”
Alex stood. “Of course. I am also at your service.”

DAMIAN CIRCLED S YDNEY, WHO HUNG BY HER WRISTS FROM THE CEILING IN THE CENTER OF THE
cement room in the basement. He hadn’t touched her, save to cuff her into position, but her naked body
was covered in a fine sheen of sweat, and she trembled every time he came near.
“Why is Chase still alive?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“I-I don’t know. I watched as Nigel give him the poison.”
Damian lunged at her and she jerked away. He smiled. “Did you? Did you really?” He studied her
face. “I think you went soft on me.” He dragged a finger across her chest and pinched her nipple.
