“Are you done with recon?”
She nodded.
He stalked past her and headed to the car they’d parked a quarter-mile away. He needed to get his
head around this new development.
“Is everything ready for tonight, Terric?” Damian asked, staring into the lit fireplace near his chair in
his study.
“Yes, my lord.”
“Good.” Damian glanced at the clock on the wall. He expected to hear from Sydney at any
moment. Once Chase was occupied with the job, Sabrina would be completely vulnerable. “Are you
ready?” he asked the Immortal.
“I am.”
Damian nodded. Soon Sabrina would be his.
Chase stared out the window as Sam, Sydney’s driver, drove through the midnight desert landscape.
His thoughts were scattered, not a good way to begin a job. Why hadn’t he realized when they landed
in Arizona that it could be linked to Sabrina somehow? Mexican Cartel leaders weren’t exactly
common, even in the Southwest.
Then again, Sabrina wasn’t keen on talking about her time with Ramon. How would he have
known?
But why did she talk to Damian about it?
Something didn’t make sense.
Sam pulled off the hard-packed dirt road on the far side of a hill that shielded them from view of
the compound and the team hopped out. They gathered weapons and equipment, ready to move to their
assigned places. Jose stayed with Sam in the van as he connected remotely to the security system of
the compound. Sydney, Dale, Billy, and Chase headed to the door in the hill that led to the basement.
It wasn’t a long walk. The road snaked back and forth, keeping to the high ground to avoid flash
flooding, but following the wash cut the distance in half. The moon was nowhere to be seen, and they
stayed in the shadows of the large bushes and scrubs that lined the side of the wash.
Before long, they’d reached their entrance. Sydney pulled out her phone and tapped the screen a
few times.
“What are you doing?” Chase asked in a low voice.
