Richard nodded and gave him an affectionate look as he pulled on his down jacket. “Get some

sleep. I’ll call you later.”

He headed back up the stairs and froze. The situation room. Were the weapons and explosives

secure? Had they gone up in the fire? Was that part of the explosions? He took a few more steps but

shook his head. He couldn’t take Ethan. One, Ethan needed sleep, and two, he needed to stay with

Chase turned and headed down to the lower level of his mom’s house to Casey’s room. Chase

wouldn’t be able to sleep until he knew what happened.

He knocked on the door and Casey called out.

Chase opened the door and saw Casey laying on his bed, his titanium leg leaning against the wall

“What’s up?”

He glanced between his friend and his false leg. “Wanna come check the condo with me?”

Casey arched a brow then his eyes widened, and he sat up. “The sit room?”

Chase nodded.

“Let me get dressed.”

DAMIAN GROWLED AND SWEPT THE SIDE TABLE LAMP ONTO THE GROUND , THE CERAMIC SHATTERING AS

it hit the floor. How the fuck did that happen?

He paced his bedroom, bare feet smacking the floor in a rough rhythm. He clenched his fist and

punched the wall, then stared at the hole in the drywall.

He turned and walked to the window, staring out at the black night. In the window’s reflection, he

It would do no good to lose control.

A flash of pain in his head made him wince. He closed his eyes and took another long breath. And

another. And another. Slowly his heartbeat returned to normal, the pain dissipated, and his body

cooled.

He slumped into the leather chair near the now-empty side table and leaned his head back to stare

at the ceiling.

A knock at the door made his head pound again. “What?” he growled.
