“I know.” Alex paused. “I spoke with Sebastian this afternoon.”

“Afternoon?”

“It’s evening here.”

“Oh yeah, I forgot. Sorry.”

“No worries. Anyway, Sebastian agrees Damian is Vamar. What we learned from Devin confirms

it.”

Chase stared at Ethan. “I still don’t understand how that’s possible.”

Alex sighed. “He grew so powerful he was able to control the entire world. Well, the known

world. Remember Nero, who destroyed Rome? Vamar was controlling him. He controlled many of

the Roman emperors.”

“Holy shit,” Ethan murmured from across the room.

“Ja. Kronos confronted him and banished him to somewhere out of the known universe. Sebastian

thinks Vamar is trying to do it all over again.”

Chase had to process what Alex had told him. “Why doesn’t Kronos or the other Immortals stop

him?”

“Kronos will not get involved unless he has to. This is our world. A human world. You know the

Immortals allow us to make our own mistakes, no matter how big.”

Chase ran his hands through his hair. “How the hell are we supposed to fight someone like

Vamar? How can we win?”

“The Elders are capable and powerful, Chase. That is why they are here. That is why we are here

as their heirs. To keep creatures like Vamar from gaining too much power. He has only begun.” He

paused. “My father thinks he may make his move at your Spring Gathering. There are rumors Damian

is calling the world Elders to appear there.”

“How is he doing all this?” Chase rubbed his face. “How can he control so many Elders? Hell,

why are they interested in working with him?”

“Slick are the lies of the devil.”

“I guess.”

“Charm and charisma go a long way in hiding true motives. Plus he has Sabrina and she is more

powerful than Anna ever was.”
