“We all know that can take some time and accidents can happen. Evidence gets destroyed,” Tyler said. If there were any links to Reborn on those drives, Raven wanted to make sure they got it.
“Careful, gentlemen,” Kramer warned, mask back in place, friendliness gone.
“We’re all on the same side here, Agent Kramer.” Dex smiled broadly, though his tone held just a hint of sarcasm.
The agent looked between Dex and Tyler, then he nodded. “I’ll see what I can do.”
“You do that. You know how important it is for agencies to get along. Makes us want to go the extra mile and bring you gifts, just like these hard drives.” Tyler kept his smile in place. CIA fucking owed them. He’d got electrocuted getting those drives. His hands were still tingling.
“If we find something, I’ll loop in Harrison. You have my word.”
Unfortunately, CIA’s word didn’t mean shit, but they knew it was the best they could expect to get. If he didn’t play nice, they always had Mira. Having a former CIA analyst on their team gave them a certain degree of back door access.
“Appreciate it. You ready for your man?” Dex asked.
“Yes. Let’s get this done.”
Dex turned and motioned for the rest of the team to bring Gomez down.
Ryan and Donnie shoved Gomez forward.
“Not that I doubt you, but protocol says I need to verify his ID.” Kramer indicated the hood.
“No problem.” Ryan removed it, Gomez squinted against the bright sunlight.
Kramer nodded. “That’s him, alright.” He signaled to his fellow agents and they moved forward to take Gomez from Ryan. Gomez looked back, staring at the team.
“Something you want to say?” Dex asked him coolly.
“No. I just want to remember the faces of the men that I will kill.” Gomez spat at Dex’s feet.
Tyler raised his eyebrows and the team chuckled. No one responded. It wasn't the first time they’d been threatened; it wouldn’t be the last. None of them would lose any sleep over it.
Kramer put the hood back over Gomez’s head. “Shut the fuck up.”
“Good luck.” Dex shook hands with Kramer. Tyler waited; hearing Dex’s phone vibrate again. Someone wanted to talk to him badly.
Kramer nodded. “Thank you.”
Raven watched them load Gomez into one of the SUVs and drive away.
“Let’s get back to the Farm and wrap this up so we can all go home,” Dex said. and they began walking toward their personal vehicles.
“Fuck, five missed calls and a text. Liam wants to get hold of me really bad. Guess I better call him.”
“Ahh, he misses you.” Tyler grinned.
Dex put the phone to his ear.
“Hey man, what’s—”
Dex stopped walking. Tyler stopped, too, looking at him questioningly. His knuckles had turned white as he gripped the phone listening to Liam. The rest of the team turned, looking back at him in concern, sensing something was up. Dex stepped a few feet away and Tyler could no longer hear what was being said. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
“Who is he talking to?” Ryan asked.
“Liam. His phone has been ringing nonstop while we handed off Gomez. Something's up,” Tyler said, staring at Dex’s back. Visions of his mom and Allan bleeding out flooded his brain. This wasn't going to be good.
Dex ended the call and turned facing them. The team waited. Tyler braced for what was coming. Dex’s face screamed bad news.
