“A bomb went off at San Diego FBI HQ an hour ago. Took down the west side of the building.” Dex didn’t sugar coat it.
Tyler glanced at the team. All looked as stunned as he felt.
“How bad?” Ryan asked.
“Bad. Sam, Mira, and Kelly were working out of there this morning.”
“Fuck! Are they—”
“Kelly’s OK.” When Dex’s gaze rested on Tyler, he felt the blood drain from his face. “Sam and Mira are unaccounted for.”
“They were on the west side?” Mackie asked.
“No, they were in the basement where they think the bomb was detonated.”
Tyler stepped back and turned away, his hands on his head. He felt a hand on his shoulder. “Doesn’t mean anything, Ty. They can still be alive,” Mackie said.
The whole team were looking at him sympathetically. Yeah, this thing between him and Mira was no secret to any of them.
“He’s right, Ty. We’ve dug people out of collapsed buildings and tunnels before,” Steve added.
Tyler turned back, his face distraught. “This can’t be happening.”
Dex stepped in front of him. “They’re not dead until we see a body. Right?”
Tyler nodded. “Right.”
“What do we know?” Ryan asked.
“Rescue squad are doing the surface rescue first, then they’ll start the search for those buried.”
“They pull any survivors from below yet?” Tyler asked quietly.
“Not yet. You know how this works Ty. It depends where exactly they were. They have to clear the surface first, secure the site. Then they will look for signs of life.”
“Fuck.”
“Let’s get over there.” Dex started to walk.
“Who did this?” Tyler hadn’t moved.
Dex stopped and turned to face him. “Tyler, that doesn’t matter right now. Let’s go and find— ”
“Damn it, Dex, if someone claimed responsibility, tell me.”
Dex paused and before he even spoke Tyler knew the answer.
“Reborn.” Dex confirmed his thought.
“Jesus Christ. Again. Why is that name connected to everything we touch?” Mackie growled.
“I know. But right now, we need to get over there and help find our people and anyone else that is trapped. Nyx are already there.”
“What about Sanchez?” Ryan asked.
“He’s OK. He wasn’t in the building,” Dex answered. Tyler stepped closer to his team leader.
“Ty?”
